I'm thinking I may go up to NYC for Spring Break. Could use some help figuring costs...
I was there on a school trip back when I was in high school, and I never got to go see the Met. Museum of Art -- the only location I really wanted to visit, and that tour was canceled so we could go to...Macy's. Philistines.

Right now, I'm trying to work out what gas costs are going to be like, and it looks like I'm going to be staring at somewhere between $175-$235 to get there from Florida. (My pieceashit '89 Volvo gets between 15-20 mpg...on the highway.) And I'm sure there would be tons of parking fees in the city proper, so I'm wondering if it might not be more cost-effective to catch a round-trip flight and just get a subway pass.

And of course, there's accomodations...and while it's tempting to post on Craigslist asking for a place to crash for a week in exchange for a week's worth of sexual favors, that's a: sleazy b: not really the best of ideas and c: probably wouldn't work anyway. (I'm not pretty enough for most women to want me, and I'm not attracted to most guys! :( ;) )

So, on a more serious note...What do reasonably clean/safe hotels near the Met cost for a week? Would it be cheaper to find someone who's renting out their apartment and pay for a week there?

Food -- how much is decent food going to run me? An apartment would help with that, since it's much cheaper to buy a week's worth of groceries than pay for a week's worth of restaurant meals.

Entertainment: Clubs? Bars? (Although, for those to be an option, I'll have to cough up for a good fake ID, and that'll be about $100.) Indie coffeeshops? Local band concerts? What'd those run me?
