|
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 10:18 AM by bbernardini
...back from when I used to sneak a tape recorder and microphone into shows. In the past week or two, I've discovered and transferred shows by:
Teenage Fanclub Bad Religion Air Supply Cheap Trick Smashing Pumpkins Front 242 Asia (first John Payne tour) Courtney Love (guest appearance at Lollapalooza) P-Funk The Moody Blues (first orchestra tour) John S. Hall Tenacious D Primus Fishbone Tool Trisha Yearwood Status Quo Meat Loaf They Might Be Giants
And I've got lots more to go. This is gonna be fun.

2. It's only two songs, but I'm sure we can work something out. |
|
It was her first live appearance after Kurt's death, I believe. Smashing Pumpkins gave up a little bit of their stage time so she could sing a few tunes. :)

7. I believe I've actually got two recordings of them. |
|
Both in Philadelphia. One at the Electric Factory, and one at the TLA. The TLA show is nice because it was a little looser, and they did an off-the-cuff cover of Fear's "I Don't Care About You."

5. That's it - I'm sending you a stack of CDs from Amazon |
|
I'd take about any of those except, well perhaps Air Supply - what the fuck were you doing at an Air Supply concert?

I loves me some Air Supply. Always have, since I was but a young lad. My wife loves them as well, so it was only natural that we caught a show. (This was before we were married.) We had gone to see Dave Matthews two days before, and left because it was so boring (and the sound was awful). I came away from the Air Supply show two days later thinking about how much more ass they kicked than DMB.

10. Well, there's a few options. |
|
I have an Edirol R-09, which is a small digital recorder. It has built-in mics, but also has line and mic inputs. I hook up the tape deck to that, and play the tapes into it, then just transfer the files to my Mac for editing. However, you could also get software which will record whatever you input into your computer, then you can edit it with free editing software like Audacity.

Although I think I have a recording of P-Funk I made at a show in Pittsburgh. I know I have a recording of Take 6 I made on the same trip.

13. Just curious: Ever get busted? |
|
A friend of mine scored tickets to the recent Led Zeppelin reunion and debated, momentarily, about trying to tape it. But he figured security would be so tight that he'd probably get nabbed and have to miss the show.
(Amazing recordings of the show DO exist, so some folks obviously risked it.)

14. Only once, taping Barenaked Ladies. |
|
I think I still have the middle 3rd of the show somewhere, though.
Yeah, there's at least 10 audio sources of the Zeppelin show. I think I have about 5. :)

...I tend to sign off early and/or randomly from DU. (Such is my life!) In answer to your Zep question, a friend sent me a copy of the Wendy's version, which I've heard is one of the best (but it's the only one I HAVE heard). I have a habit of buying Zep silvers from Japan when I'm flush with cash, and am exploring that ave. for other versions of 02. I'm not much of a trader at this point, but am working towards that goal. One of my many attempts to burst through to the 21st century, which I hope will happen some day soon.
Rock on, bbernardini!
