I have learned so much in my short time on DU, I want to write a thank you note... |
|
Joining DU has been a true eye-opener for me, participating in discussions has truly been an attitude adjustment on my part - I am positive for the better. Even though I am 45 years old & considered myself fairly experienced in the game of life, there was a great deal of naivete' on some subjects and I thank both those who gently and even those who harshly guided me to consider other points of view. These subjects include in no particular order of importance: Gay rights, racial issues, libertarian views, health care, Confederate flags, smoker & nonsmoker rights. religion, Larry the Cable Guy, the right to die with dignity & many other issues I could go on about. The point I want to make is that that this irresistible forum has the power to change mindsets. I do not post as much as I used to, because simply reading has become the reward. I realize that some of my opinions and a few outlandish inebriated postings were very off-putting, but then again perhaps I am the only one who remembers those cringe-inducing moments. But most on DU will welcome anyone back even when they are on an unpopular or even unworthy track and that is a rare thing in these unforgiving times. So Thanks.
With love and respect, Lori

3. If you missed the cornflakes threads and the Oscar threads. |
|
I recommend them highly. They will show you a side to DU that will astonish, amaze and make you fall in love even more.

at the threads today because I have been busy getting prepared for a new job that I will start on Thursday. Then I started reading about the actor who died. Most everyone has been praising him for his performance in Brokeback Mountain and then there are some who deliberately provoke or make a punchline out of it. Maybe these are some people who could gain from the compassionate responses and make room in their hearts for those who suffer loss. I hope so, and I truly believe I am a better and more aware person and the wonderful people on DU had a part in my getting my first job in 6 yrs after doing my full-time parenting gig, which was time well spent and lucky to have had the chance.

For me it's definitely home in a cyber way!
And many of the folks I've met here are now close friends off the board as well...
I am very lucky!
