the leash couple were just interviewed on TV! |
|
So, an update:
unfortunately, most of it was this woman asking why they wear such weird clothes. What I learned seemed kind of like a mix of the speculation from the other thread. The girl did ask to be led around on a leash, and said that this guy was the first boyfriend she's had who was willing to do it (but since she's only 19, I can't imagine there were that many previous boyfriends to ask). What was really creepy, was that while they said they really love and respect each other, the guy did say that she was like an animal and a pet to him. Seems like a weird relationship..... I don't know what to say about it. The bus company did issue an apology to them, but I still think the argument that some made about possibly not wanting to expose children to this is valid. I can imagine certain things wouldn't be allowed in public.... nudity isn't. Where do we draw the line? Not here apparently, and maybe that's for the best.

1. I hate the "don't want to expose children to this" argument... |
|
its a cop out. Easily enough explained as "different strokes for different folks", if parents or guardians have difficulty explaining such issues, which aren't even necessarily sexual, to their own kids, THEY are the ones with that have an issue with it, not the kids.

2. couldn't you just tell young kids |
|
well, I guess they just have fun wearing those costumes. Or sometimes grownups have fun pretending too. I mean, a kid young enough to be "harmed" by too much information probably is just curious and will only freak out if people make a big deal of it.

3. I'd just tell my kid they're playing a game |
|
Little kids understand roleplaying and pretend games just fine.

6. And that's probably not far off the mark. |
|
The couple may be very serious about what they're doing, but it seems to involve a commitment to roleplaying.

4. yeah, I'm not sure that I agree with that argument either |
|
but I think it is a valid concern to some. The same could be said about public nudity or public sex acts - it would be fine to some, but it offends others. Personally, I think we'd be better off with no laws prohibiting such things - public standards should be set by a society as a whole and be self regulating.... pipe dream, I know.

but that's my point - if it's a case of a completely consensual physical interaction between adults..... well, where do you draw the line? I've spent a lot of time in france over the past year, and what goes on with couples in public there on a daily basis wouldn't happen in the US.... at least it wouldn't be considered normal.

We always have to draw arbitrary lines in a society. Many many laws are just deciding where to draw the line. However, there is a clear difference between wearing something and giving head in public. Jewelry or adornment should not be legislated. The lines are already drawn, and I think it's just silly to compare the two.

12. I know a male gay couple.. |
|
that hold hands wherever they go. They were in the grocery one day and this lady started hollering at them..."Not in here, Gentlemen!" and she started to cover her kid's eyes. I think her making a big deal out of it is worse than seeing two men holding hands.

14. OMG! Did she get the kid vaccinated? |

I hear gay is contagious. Scary stuff this "homosexuality" causes people to do all these weird things, like cover their kids eyes so they don't see it, keep people in love from getting married, and beat the crap out of random people. Oh wait, that's homophobia, isn't it?
