Help! I'm desperate! I want to make pancakes but have no milk |
|
and I just don't feel like going to the store tonight. I do, however, have a bunch of plain yogurt. Could I substitute yogurt for milk, and in what ratio? I've checked the Internets a bit, but every recipe with yogurt still seems to call for milk.
Help!

1. dunno, but maybe beat some water into some yogurt to get the liquid? |
|
Ratios? You're on your own there. Cooking is an adventure and an art, not a science. Play a bit. Or just have yogurt for supper.

7. that's what I was thinking - thin the yogurt out a bit |
|
when I get the idea of pancakes in my head, really nothing will do but that I have them. My mother did this to me; I blame her. We quite often had breakfast for dinner and I looooved it. ;)

you don't just have only water needed bisquick or anything? I know that for some recipes that call for buttermilk, you can substitute a mixture of vinegar and water in some proportion - maybe if you find a pancake recipe that calls for buttermilk, but not normal milk, you can find this buttermilk substitute thing in some online recipe deal - though I think just going to the store is about a million times easier.

9. yeah, probably is easier going to the store, |
|
but I was hoping for a quick and easy fix. I usually use eggs, milk, vegetable oil, some sugar and self-rising flour; don't have Bisquick in the house. Sigh.

13. OK, make sure it's a padded one so the milk doesn't get crushed |
|
I'll do the same for the eggs. :) How many you need?

14. Make sure to seal it well so it does not leak in the tubes. |

4. Do you have any club soda? |
|
If you substitute that instead of milk they'll come out nice and fluffy.

10. bugger. No club soda. Lots of cooking wine, but I don't think |
|
that'll do. Kahlua, vodka, rice vinegar, sesame oil, rum, etc. No club soda. Hmph.

6. Yogurt is good. The Club Soda idea is good. A little bit of regular water is fine. |
|
It's just pancakes, it's not rocket science.

8. you can make them with water. |
|
they won't taste as good, but they will still be pancakes. maybe sweeten them up a little, and add a little butter. but i also concur with the suggestion to just thin the yogurt a little and use that. 1 to 1.

16. OK, a water/yogurt blend it'll be, perhaps with a bit of melted |
|
butter thrown in. I do have *real* butter, no substitutions accepted, so perhaps it'll all taste OK. Thanks!

19. no. I have a 25 lb bag of jasmine rice, some kim chee, |
|
lots of vinegary condiments & soy sauce and stuff, and then eggs, yogurt, flour, sugar and syrup in the fridge. Lol! Well, the rice isn't in the fridge. My husband has sour-food cravings (kim chee) and I go for non-chocolate sweet stuff. :D

mocha soy milk. I really need to get my butt to the store. Wasn't really excited about chocolatey pancakes, though -
