1. I'll miss the guy. He is just a few years older than I am
and I always hate it when someone so well-known decides to pack up. I'll bet he will be heard from again though.

7. yes and no
I think you might be thinking of the NBA player Lattrell Spreewell who choked his coach..But Knight lost his original job at Indiana when film came to light of him putting his hands around the throat of one his players.
Good riddance I say, someone both physically and verbally abusive, but it was always OK cause he won...
Now I am sure all the b-ball fans will flame me about how he made "men of boys":eyes:

11. No. Bob Knight usually chokes in the post-season.
Don't let the front door hit you on the backside, Bobby! Never has somebody been talked up so much for doing so little. How many NCAA titles? TWO?!! TWO?!! Out of how many years?

13. Nice!
I know two things about basketball:

1. The ball's supposed to go through the hoop.
2. Bobby Knight is kind of a jackass.

14. It's actually 3 titles including the last undefeated national champs
in '76. I don't like the guy, but at least he doesn't sit around and hope that no other team matches his record.

4. Pfft. "Legend." Ha.
The basketball coach at my alma mater had 10 NCAA National Championships. Never threw a chair in his life. That's a legend. :)

6. Funny how Wooden became a much better coach when alums started "investing" in recruits
But why let ugly facts get in the way of a good legend

10. Amen to that.
It's not hard to be a "legend" when alums can buy the dream team for you every year.

to bad rubbish.

9. Good riddance to a worthless piece of shit prima donna
Fucking childish asshole should have retired years ago. This Hoosier fan celebrated the day IU finally, rightfully canned his sorry ass.

24. Nope, IU fan
I don't care if he did win. I never have been able to stand him, and I was glad when Indiana finally shitcanned him.

And now I don't even have that.

Dude quit on his team. Good riddance.

16. I'm always torn with Bob Knight
On one hand he did great things: graduation rates, funding for libraries and he stood up for that little kid that had AIDS and invited him to games etc. etc.

On the other though he is a stone hypocrit when it comes to self discipline, abuses players, and has hostile relationships with those that "washed out" from his program.

17. There's no need to piss on his grave, so to speak.
Everybody knows the scoop on Knight. A mixed bag. Asshole? Sure, sometimes. Great coach? Absolutely. And you can't argue with his record.

And Indiana hasn't been a national basketball power since the Knight days.

19. I'm from IN, and Bobby Knight is almost worshipped around here.
I never understood that. The man is a lunatic, given to violent outbursts. What kind of an example is that to set for the players he's supposed to be coaching? He should have been fired from IU long before he was. I can tell you this much -- I couldn't go to work and start throwing potted plants and choking people and expect to keep my job.

20. I was kinda surprised
when I read the news. Coach Knight is saying he is tired... but what kind of way is it to quit in the middle of the season? As for his coaching talents, I have little to say. He obviously knew how to win and he does, after all, hold the NCAA record in wins, but he never quite impressed me as a coach. His personality, instead, leaves a lot to be desired.

All the same, I am thankful for his contributions to the game and college athletics in general and for teaching his assistant at Army well :)

We should promote emotional consistency in the line of succession.

23. I know a prof at TTech who is smiling big now.
I met her way back at a knitting guild convention. Wonderful woman. We had a lovely chat in the back row about how much she hated him and how political it all really was when he got the job. ;)
