What kind of county builds a new library but does not provide money for BOOKS? |
|
Apparently ours does. That's Nueces County, TX for those playing along at home. They are spending brazillians of dollars on a fancy new library with computers, some fancy art work and furniture and stuff. But no funding for books. Apparently Friends of the Library are supposed to ante up for those. Now my local library is renovating and also didn't include extra money for more books but at least they already have some at least.

Man, as I used to say when I was a Park Ranger, "Thank the Gods for Mississippi and Alabama, otherwise we'd be dead last in the Union" on funding, education, etc. Besides, with "no child left behind" pretty soon none of the kids coming out of our school system will learn to read if they don't get it at home or elsewhere, so why do you need books?
As a side note, I have a personal library of over 3500 books and ~2500 videos on DVD that I hope to one day donate to a small library somewhere after I pass away... so that a little town somewhere in the US can get a killer library. Too bad that looks like what libraries are actually PLANNING on happening!

to get jaded enough to where I don't get surprised or stunned anymore; at least I've become jaded enough to not be livid about everything like this that comes up anymore...
