Here's the sequence:

3. Try to pour it straight down my throat.
4. Swallow.
5. Shout loudly, "Oh, shit! That's horrible!"
6. Pound on the kitchen counter, gasping for air.
7. Pray that my gag reflexes don't make me barf. I do NOT want to repeat steps 1-6.

I was sitting in a laundrotmat waiting for the dryers and trying to avoid listening to some soap opera blaring on the tube behind me. A number of college students were scattered around the place studying, and all of them were drinking bottled water. This was fairly early in the bottled water craze, and I recall thinking to myself, "What a bunch of dopes. Paying $1 for a bottle of water." I then looked at my can of Diet Coke (without bacon), and thought: "This shit is nothing more than dirty, bad tasting water. It's full of chemicals that either serve no purpose or are bad for me. I paid sixty cents for this crap. I think those kids have the right idea."
