1. We did, until the seventh or eight time people got fried at one. |
|
After that one last time of a tractor-trailer slamming into a line of stationary cars and killing a half-dozen people, the state finally wised up and removed the tollbooths.

I remember when that happened. It was all over the news, and Governor O'Neill got involved and got them removed.
What a horrible accident.

7. Yes. It was a nightmare. Furthermore, we've rid ourselves of the clouds of air pollution |
|
caused by having that many vehicles sitting with their engines running in line for the tollbooths.
I kid you not; if you were near a tollbooth (but not on the highway), you could tell by the smell.

are one of the reasons why there's sooo much traffic backup. In NYC, you wait so long for the tolls sometimes but then when you get past them, it's all clear.

10. Uhhmm, unless it has improved in the last four years |
|
when I left CT, it has not improved. I-95 which I could smell both when I lived in Norwalk and Bridgeport, was pretty much a parking lot all from 6am to 8pm.

was involved in that last one down in Stratford. His brother and sister died. He only suffered minor injuries. He was very young at the time.
