I have fu***ing had with these two cats |
|
I ranted about this before. My neighbors have two cats and a dog. The cats hang out in my carport cause the dog chases them. Well they keep spraying the car tires. I am gonna write a very cordgial letter tonight asking to discuss the situation. If that does not help. I am calling animal control, which probably wont help. What then? They are Maine Coons-my favorite breed and I will not hurt them. I have tried pepper in which they just lay in, apple bitters, a super soaker. They see me coming and hop the fence and just stare at me laughing. Advice please before this world is two cats less.

1. What's the big deal about a little cat spray on your tires? |
|
If that's your biggest worry in the world I envy you.

But the very pungent smell seeps into the inside of the car. Try smelling cat spray sometime. It aint to pleasent and I have had cats my entire life. Think of a litter box that has not been cleaned in about 30 days and roasting in the sun.

31. CAYENNE PEPPER will solve all your problems. And mothballs |
|
on the perimeter of the carport will be a further deterrent.
Get a restaurant size container of that cayenne pepper and sprinkle it where the cats like to piss.
A little diligence, no more cats.

5. The Super Soaker didn't work? |
|
That's puzzling. Whenever I've had trouble with invading cats a gentle blast from the garden hose always worked wonders.
Since they seems to dislike dogs maybe you could get (or borrow) one to be a sentry?

14. Another thought : catnip |
|
Put some under your car . . . they'll be too busy acting stoned to engage in any illicit urination.
Plus it's highly entertaining to watch.

21. I have three Maine Coons |
|
and many Maine Coons enjoy water, even a squirt of water. Many play in kiddie pools. One of mine will sit quite happily in a soaking downpour (on the back deck, I don't let mine run loose).
I would suggest to your neighbors that they not allow their animals to run loose. Most communities have a leash law which prohibits free-roaming animals. This applies to cats as well as dogs.
Are these cats neutered? Neutered cats will still spray, but it doesn't smell as pungent, plus they're somewhat less likely to spray. If they aren't neutered, they should be, especially if they're running loose.
Try shaking soda cans filled with pennies at them when you see them. Try putting a small amount of lemon juice in the super soaker water (most cats dislike the smell and sting of lemon).
If all else fails, complain to animal control and request that the neighbors be required to comply with leash laws.

12. get a really large vacuum cleaner |
|
out there, and when you see them, turn it on full blast... then lift it up and point the bottom of it at them ominously, as if attacking them with it...
they won't bother you again... ((and they probably will never recover from the trauma))

at all, and when we're out in the shop welding or grinding metal, he'll sit right next to the operation. We know he ain't deaf, but the way he ignores humongous noises, you'd think he was...;-)

17. They have declared your vehicle as their territory |
|
and if they have a dog chasing them, they are using it as their refuge as well.. It's an instinctive thing.. Cats do have very sensitive noses though, and you might try a pungent spray deodorant (sounds silly, I know) to mask their scent and maybe discourage them from re-scenting..
My friend had a neighbor cat that would "mark" their railing on their deck, making it rather unpleasant to sit out there, so....she got out a can of right guard to mask the scent, and a few hours later she heard the cat having a sneezing fit on the deck.. He never makrked it again....and yes... the right guard smell did dissipate.:)

38. If they have marked your tires to claim as their territory, why not |
|
mark them yourself to claim them back?
Just joking, but my ex marked the mimosa trees he planted because someone told him it would keep the beavers from cutting them down. The dog thought that was such a good idea, that he marked them too. (We lived a half mile from our nearest neighbor.)

29. Cordial is a good start |
|
I have cats and wish I didn't. I know the neighbors don't care for them, and they don't spray, just trespass freely. It'd break the kid's heart to part with them so I'm stuck. However, making someone aware, firsthand, that your cats are causing grief, may just be enough to do the job. Cats can't help what they do, they're not trying to spite you. They're probably having a turf war and your car is parked on the battlefield.

Make sure the tape can stick to them. Cats HATE when things stick to them and the cayenne pepper irritates without injury. Let the owners remove the tape a few times - they will get sick of that REAL fast.

|
As a cat owner myself, of one who drives me totally crazy since he loves the sound of his own meowing, I like the idea of the cordial note and discussion. Maybe the owner of the cats knows what they don't like and can give you hints as to how to keep them away from your car, etc.
Good luck!
