Entertaining friends at home. |
|
Do you do it? We do. We enjoy it. Don't have to drive home when the party's over. Selfish, I know.
We have "friends" who don't. Ever. They seem to be very happy to come to our house (and others). They just never reciprocate. Never.
I'm getting a little pissed about this. Am I being petty?

2. Look at the full half of the glass |

When they're always at your house, you don't have to stay sober enough to drive home.

3. explore your reasons for being pissed |
|
I ove having people over, as compared to going to their place. I like being in my own space, I love cooking, and I have my own bathroom, and at the end of the evening, I don't have to go anywhere.
But on the other hand, one of the pisser problems of it is that it means I end up paying so much more for an evening's fun if the other's dont' reciprocate. That's the only thing that bothers me sometimes.
thankfully, though, most of my circle of friends tends to trade off in a fairly fair way, eccept that I always serve MUCH higher quality wine and alcohol, and except for one friend, serve better and fancier foods... but, as I said, I love to cook, and I love good food, and I remind myself, I do this becuase i like it and I like my friends. Not so that they'll serve me foies gras next time. It's all about community and fellowship.

4. Maybe, they are cleaning challenged or don't have space |
|
Perhaps, you could suggest that they bring something when they come over if you feel that they are freeloading.

6. We are always entertaining in our home. We love it. |

Sometimes our kids go to Grandma's and sometimes they stay for the party but go to bed around 8:00. My husband is in a band so we always have his band members and their wives/SO over for dinner or pre-gig party. We are still fortunate enough to keep in touch with alot of our "old friends" so it isn't hard to get a party going in a weeks notice.
We have done alot of work to our house and are proud of it. We like to "show it off" every now and then. Besides, who can turn down a good party????
For our friends who don't...We are kind of glad. Either their house isn't very clean (like toilets, a clean toilet is a must if I am going to a party) or they don't have the space. Other than that, there really isn't an excuse.

7. I fell out of my social circle of friends |
|
because with two small children it's hard to entertain at home, and I'd feel guilty for always going to other's homes.
Maybe suggest meeting at public places such as restaurants whenever you want to hang out, but don't want to play the host again?
Some people are just naturally better at entertaining, and feel more compelled to do so more often. For me, it was always a nightmare because I don't know how to cook very many fancy things, and I always stressed out hoping that everyone had a good time.
