What's your favourite topic for a song that you've heard?
This local band The Satans has a song that details a war between the unnamed protagonist, a zombie Princess Diana who is now his wife, against the Royal Family. It is spectacular.

So what is your favourite song topic ever?

which details the struggle of the id and the animus within Nietzsche's Superman gestalt, not recognizing the effect produced by running over your neighbors.

Edit: Your song sounds pretty interesting...

6. Your question is a good one and it's had me thinking since you asked it.
I cannot name a single song but my favorite groups are usually high concept in and of themselves: Autechre, Kraftwerk, etc. The Hafler Trio have done some incredibly interesting work in audio and conceptuality; seek them out if you want an eyeful and an earful (just listening may not tweak you until you are aware of their intention and just what they've realized through each piece). Extremely abstract.

11. OK.. let's see how to explain this one..
Edited on Fri Feb-15-08 11:45 PM by opiate69
A guy gets abducted by super-intelligent aliens... they have chosen to impart to him all of the ultimate answers.. after they tell him the meaning of life, etc.. they beam him back to earth, and disoriented from the experience, realizes that he can't remember the important lessons he was taught.. having no way to write them down, they're lost forever..

Alrighty, then ... picture this if you will.

10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes,
in my "need to know" pose, just outside of Area 51
Contemplating the whole "chosen people" thingy
when a flaming stealth banana split the sky
like one would hope but never really expect
to see in a place like this.
Cutting right angle donuts on a dime
and stopping right at my Birkenstocks,
and me yelping...

Holy fucking shit!

Then the X-Files being,
Looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan
with Isabella Rossellini lips, and breath that reeked of
vanilla Chig Champa
Did a slow-mo Matrix descent
Outta the butt end of the banana vessel
And hovered above my bug-eyes, my gaping jaw,
and my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip,
and all I could think was:
"I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice
that I pissed my fuckin' pants."

So light in his way,
Like an apparition,
He had me crying out,
"Fuck me
It's gotta be
the Deadhead Chemistry
The blotter got on top of me
Got me seein' E-motherfuckin'-T!"

And after calming me down
with some orange slices
and some fetal spooning,
E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose.
He said, "You are the Chosen One,
the One who will deliver the message.
A message of hope for those who choose to hear it
and a warning for those who do not."
Me. The Chosen One?
They chose me!!!
And I didn't even graduate from fuckin' high school.

You'd better...
You'd better...
You'd better...
You'd better listen.

Then he looked right through me
With somniferous almond eyes
Don't even know what that means
Must remember to write it down
This is so real
Like the time Dave floated away
See, my heart is pounding
'Cause this shit never happens to me

I can't breathe right now!

It was so real,
Like I woke up in Wonderland.
All sorta terrifying
I don't wanna be all alone
While I tell this story.
And can anyone tell me why
Y'all sound like Peanuts parents?
Will I ever be coming down?
This is so real
Finally, it's my lucky day
See, my heart is racing
'Cause this shit never happens to me

I can't breathe right now!

You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I've just said!
See the Dead ain't touring
And this wasn't all in my head.
See, they took me by the hand
And invited me right in.
Then they showed me something
I don't even know where to begin.

Strapped down my bed
Feet cold eyes red
I'm out of my head
Am I alive? Am I dead?
Can't remember what they said
God damn, shit the bed.

Hey ...

Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be the One
Born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending,
To write it down for all the world to see.

But I forgot my pen
Shit the bed again ...
Typical.

Strapped down my bed
Feet cold and eyes red
I'm out of my head
Am I alive? Am I dead?
Sunkist and Sudafed *
Gyroscopes and infrared
Won't help, I'm brain dead
Can't remember what they said
God damn, shit the bed

I can't remember what they said to me
Can't remember what they said to make me out to be the hero
Can't remember what they said
Bob help me!
Can't remember what they said

don't know, won't know (x12)

God damn, shit the bed!

12. It's not holy-shit unbelievable, but this is a nice track about alien contact.
It's a touch weak out of the context of the rest of the album, which alltogether, rocks.

Gotta love Punishement of Luxury (Punilux):

13. The struggle between an oppressive government and an inspired artist.
The inspired artists pleads his case before the oppressive government only to have his notions shot down hard. He feels so bad over this he commits suicide. Sadly his death occurs just before returning liberators arrive to replace the oppressive government.

I wonder if anyone knows which song this is... pretty easy for some here I suspect.

14. Classic Sentiment, but said better than most
By The Skyhooks

Why Don't You All Get Fucked.

I used to know this kid in sixth grade
The teachers called him dumb
He'd try real hard did his homework everyday
But still they'd whip him on the arse
One day he went to the playground
With a spraycan under his coat
Stood upon a trashcan and this is what he wrote...

Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all get fucked
Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all get fucked

A girl sixteen was trying to grow up
But her parents kept her down
She'd behave herself and come home at twelve
Her daddy would just sneer and frown
So one afternoon she packed her bags
With her boyfriend she drove away
A thousand miles later miles late she picked up the phone
And this is what she had to say...
Hey mum an dad!

Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all get fucked
Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all get fucked

A private in the army
A sensitive chap
Who didn't want to be there at all
And a sergeant who hated this young guys guts
Used to make him scrub the floor
They were out on manoeuvres on a lousy day
The enemy had to be scouted
The private got his hands on an M-16
As he shot up the place he shouted...

Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all
Why dontcha all get fucked
You shoulda seen the smile on that soldiers face
When he saw how fast the sergeant ducked

So if you're in trouble right up to your brain
And the boss is gettin' to you
Parents and politics, money and marriage
And life in general is making you spew
There's one thing that you gotta do
And I suggest you do it today
Stand up in your office, school or your street
And this is what you gotta say...

Why don't you and you and you and you
And your rotten friends too
Why don't you and him and not forgettin' you
Why dontcha all get fucked!!

15. This song gave me chills the first time I heard it....
"God Given" by Nine Inch Nails

Hey man, please don't make a sound.
Take a look around.
Can't you see what's right in front of you.
Have a little taste, no more time to waste.
You don't wanna get left behind.
Because it's all coming down right now.

What is there to see? Put your faith in me.
Cause I sure wouldn't wanna be praying to the wrong piece of wood.
You should get where you belong.
Everything you know is wrong.
Come on! Sing along! Everybody now! God given...

And he gives us sight, and we see the light.
And it burned so bright, now we know we're right.
In his kingdom come, and thy will be done.
We've just begun, we're the chosen onces.

I would never tell you anything that wasn't absolutely true.
That hadn't come straight from his mouth, and he wants me to
tell you...

Wait, step into the light. How can this be right? I'm afraid
we're going to ask you to leave. Guess you cannot win with the
color of your skin. You won't be getting in to the promise land.
It's just another case, you people still don't know your place.
Step aside, out the way, and wipe that look off your face.
Cause we are the divine, separated from the swine.
Come on! Sing along! Everybody now! God given...

Chorus...
