Ideas from sci-fi you'd like to see implemented? |
|
Out of all the sci-fi out there, what concepts do you think are even vaguely workable (as in, within the next hundred years or so) ideas to improve the planet?
For myself, I like one of Warren Ellis' ideas from Transmetropolitan -- covering Mercury in solar panels and channeling the energy back here. Near-infinite clean power.

2. Orbital solar panels would be more cost effective... |
|
just an FYI! :)
Beyond that, let's see, I'd like to see some Space Elevators built, makes going into orbit a lot cheaper. We could harness the resources of the solar system, such as NEOs to build orbital cities and habitats. Terraform Mars and Venus, etc.
A lot of these will be possible in at least the next fifty years, at least technologically. We have the technology now to build space habitats, capture asteroids, etc. Terraforming Mars or Venus can be started in this century, but will take longer than that to be completed. Just some ideas.

I wouldn't mind replicators and the medical devices from Star Trek
