What Is The Best Job You Have Ever Had
And no this is not a pev thread.....

Mine was when I was at Adidas, I got free shoes almost every day, and one time took a huge
box home, my neighbors loved me......
I did travel for Kobe Bryant at the time he was sponsored by Adidas, what an A$$ he was
and Ernie Els, golfer.

1. It could be a pev thread: Bikini Inspector!
I had a one day job at a sports trade show in Long Beach. My ex and I were acting as buyers for her sister's bikini shop in Hawaii. I was forced to examine bikinis on beautiful models all day long for pay. We were very much into details of the sewing and construction, of course.

This was a huge show, and I also met Olympian gold medalists Mark Spitz and volleyballer Steve Timmons, who let me hold his gold medal. Timmons has bright red hair in a flat-top, wearing a chartreuse warm-up outfit, and was very, very tall. Visually amazing. Spitz looked depressed, was smaller than I imagined, and had a limp handshake.

3. My current one
I deliver auto parts to new car dealers. We're talking tractor-trailer with a lift gate on the back. It's not the easiest job I've ever had and it's not the most interesting, but I'm making the most money of my life right now.

4. I had a job in a tea house on top of a mountain. I bathed in a waterfall
every day. We served wholesome food to customers that was cooked on wood stove (or in it). It was a glorious job. Except I was very afraid of bears.

7. 1 month temp job prepping docs to scan for a legal service.
I had stopped being a paralegal and was waiting to start a new career the following month. got hired by a pal in the business to sit at a big table with about 10 other people chatting and removing staples and marking pages for scanning. It was fun because the other people were pretty intelligent and it was very similar to the profession I had just left except that I had no personal responsibility.
An added bonus was that our supervisor, a very arrogant recent college grad, kept making glaring mistakes. His biggest was on my first day when I asked him if he wanted me to count the 75 "banker's boxes" of documents we just received he replied, "why would you do that just stack them in the basement." no prob el hefe. three weeks later all hell broke lose when only 62 boxes could be found. not a good thing with multiple millions of dollars at stake. especially bad for mr. ivy league who failed to inventory them from the start.

my pal in the front office later told me that that sup "decided to pursue other interests" rather quickly.

oh my next job turned out to be wonderful and lucrative

8. I used to be a cinematographer.
Damn I miss that job. It was absolutely the best. Had a ball on the set, met famous people, ate great food, went to unbelievable parties and made some of the best friends I have ever had in the whole world.

Alas, because it was freelance and times were getting tight, I had to take a regular job.

Sign.

I'm now a facilities manager at an arch firm.

steady paycheck, health benefits, am able to provide for my family, but my brain is leaking out of my head at an alarming rate. Soon, I will be the corporate robot with only a faint remembrance of what life used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like. used to be like.

11. I left the film biz 25 years ago.
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 04:18 PM by kwassa
It was fun for the first few years, but I didn't like the phoniness and endless self-promotion of everyone involved, all of whom apparently had a feature in the works. Many of the things I worked on were pretty stupid, too, though well-paid. I couldn't stand the feast-or-famine part of it either. Much film production work is pretty mindless, requiring strong backs and not much else. Cinematography is one of the more interesting jobs.

My much younger brother-in-law has had a pretty good run as an actor, but now he is ageing out of desirability in Hollywood, and roles are drying up. It will be interesting to see what choices he makes in the next few years.

10. Winters at the ski area
For some reason, I was put in charge of the poma lift, an antiquated piece of machinery that only had "stop" and "run" buttons. Extremely unpopular corner of the mountain with very little traffic. Regs required a full team man the thing anyhow.

But the break schedule was up to me. I needed two people to run it, always had three on. So I let everyone figure out their schedules to their liking -- one person was always on a ski break, or could come in late, leave early, whatever.

I was the best boss ever. :)
