Poll question: Have you ever derived pleasure from watching a sibling get in trouble?
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 08:12 PM by Lirwin2
This question was just on the show "moment of truth"... I love this question. What's your answer? Personally, hearing my parents scream at my brother gave me great pleasure... don't ask me why, it just did.

3. Oh, absolutely.
Not so much anymore, but I went through a really sadistic, older-sister-from-hell phase when I was about eight or nine, and I actually did things to get my little brother in trouble on purpose. Spitting on the floor was one of my favorite techniques, I recall, because he did that once in front of my mom and got in big trouble for it. So, naturally, my twisted little third-grade brain figured out that I could get my brother in trouble by spitting on the floor myself and blaming it on him. Man, I was a horrible little kid. I'm glad I grew out of that phase, and that my brother has forgiven me...for the most part, we actually even get along OK now. :)

So yes.

I was the problem child. My brother was Mr. Perfect. Although Mr. Never Got Caught would have been more appropriate.

7. I did have a moment of Schadenfreude
when my mom died a day before my middle sister's birthday and had it written IN STONE that she be cremated (against Sis's x-tian beliefs) the day after her death. ON MY SISTER'S B'DAY. This sister who had SO DISREGARDED mom's privacy, sovereignty und ALLES. I did NOT attend the memorial she organized that again contravened my mother's CLEARLY STATED WISHES.

16. when we were kids, you betcha.
my middle sis was forever aggravating me and then making it look like I started it. So any time she got caught out, it made me happy.

We got over that after I had been away at college for a semester. Now we are best of friends

My brother and I NEVER got along. All we did was fight. But, we never got each other in trouble nor took any pleasure in the other getting in trouble.

19. I'll admit it...
I was the youngest of four, and got a kick out of that sort of thing. One time I got really angry at my sister for swiping my boom box (which I bought with babysitting money) without telling me, and I "accidentally" dumped her laundry down the stairs. I was probably about 10 when this happened. She got yelled at for a good 15 minutes straight. You know that bratty younger sibling that always gets you, the older sibling, in trouble? That was me when I was a kid.

21. Hoo boy....
If Sister got in trouble, then usually it would somehow be MY fault...i.e., I didn't set a good enough example, I wasn't watching her properly, I didn't 'make her' stop doing whatever it was that she wasn't supposed to be...:banghead:

Little bitch made my life a living hell. :grr:

She's a decent person now...IF you don't mind born-again xtians who are ALWAYS RIGHT...

We don't talk much.

23. My older brother tormented me...
So I enjoyed putting my ear to the heat vent where I could hear my dad yelling at him about drinking and staying out late.

We get along fine now. He said he was usually stoned so didn't really mind the yelling too much.

27. Yes, when I was a kid
My sisters were blackmailers and snitches, a lot of the time. So when they caught hell and were unable to blame it on me, I had to laugh a little.

28. Never.
Mostly because I knew that if either of us got in trouble, both of us would get blamed for it. There's nothing like having a completely nutso family to make siblings allies. My sister was the perfect child, and still is in many ways: I was the screw-up. But I know how much it cost her, so the few times she blew it, I had her back.

It also helped that she bailed me out more than a few times. Not literally, thank goodness, but I still know that if I ever needed bail money at 3:00 am, she'd be the one I'd call.

32. Oh yeah.
My sister was six and a half years older than me, and a bully. There wasn't much I could do to defend myself against her other than to get her in trouble with our parents.

We get along much better as adults than we did as kids. :D

34. I've no siblings...
... but I did enjoy in school when jerks or annoying kids would get busted; I got some real schadenfreude or ἐπιχαιρεκακία from that. Also, whenever the class "perfect kid" or "know it all" got in trouble, I'd get a kick outta that.

Now that I think of it, I was just as warped then as I am now! :silly:

37. I took a little bit of pleasure in my siblings getting into trouble
because it meant for once, I was not the one in trouble. It was rough being the 'bad sister' right in the middle of two perfect sisters.

I saw that show, I dont know why I watched it. I am 100% sure I will never watch it again. It seemed somewhat Jerry Springerish to me!

38. Where's the option for "Do you Still Derive Pleasure ...."?
One of my brothers and one of my sisters seem to make it their life missions to screw over as many people as possible, and RARELY get held accountable. I love the rare instances when they do. They've been Mr. and Miss Teflon as long as I can remember, and still, in their mid/late 40's defend the titles.

she thought her email address was creative and cute, but others have been getting other ideas. I tried to tell her that it needed to be revised, but she blew me off. Now she has issues with some members of our local CIty Hall over her address.
