1. I know what you mean
I've had DirecTV for going on 10 years and 2 years of cable before that, so I'd forgotten just how shit regular TV was until I moved out here and my roommates were too cheap to get cable and their credit was too bad to get a dish (funny that they had loads of money for other dumb shit though--but that's another rant).

When I first got the Hi Def TV a few weeks ago, and all I was picking up was the Over the Air HD channels with my rabbit ears, I discovered much to my dismay that our local digital TV gets like 5 different TBNs, including one in Spanish. :wtf:

I was terrified. Sadly my complex lied to me and I got the DirecTV guy out to my place only to discover I couldn't get a signal from my apartment so now I am stuck paying out the ass to Cox.

I missed having Sundance Channel and Logo. Hell they are coping mechanisms for me now. It's the only way I can get culture out here.

2. Yeah, I'd rather just go without TV than just have networks.
I didn't have TV for about five months a couple years ago. Those were possibly the most active five months of my adult life.

5. No Keith? No Project Runway? Eeeek!
Cable is the only thing that makes TV worth having! I support your decision. :-)

7. Sweetie, you might want it, but you don't need it.
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 01:24 PM by Heidi
Everything you "need" is available in books, magazines, newspapers, radio and on the net. I haven't had cable access to US TV in nine years, and I'm a better person for it. :hi:

ETA:
Need= Can hardly function without it. I'm wary of anything that trips my "need" switch.
Want = Enhances life experience but isn't a necessity. I'm okay with indulging a few "wants."

9. Well, you're already a good person, so maybe you could risk a little cable TV.
I, however, am a work in progress and prolly shouldn't risk having my mind, spirit and body filled up with pop culture crap on which I could easily and quickly become dependent. :P

14. No, no, no, no, no.
I don't compare myself to other people, lioness. I compare myself to who I was yesterday. I can't be good without filling myself with good, and you're part of the good with which I fill myself. Cable TV isn't. :)

12. Actually, in a few weeks you would have had to have done something
I'm not totally up on this but something is happening where if you don't have cable, or whatever remedy they've come it for people who don't have it, you won't be able to watch TV anymore. because of the digital switch.
