Bravo, Maestro Maazel and the NY Philharmonic! What a superb concert! |
|
I hope lots of you Loungers saw it last night. I love symphonic music and this did not disappoint!
Maazel's the man! And the piccolo player is the woman! Everything was so polished and wonderful.
Did you see Maazel's handgesture at the end of "New World"? The camera followed it, a lovely palm up with outstretched arm to the strings as the last notes faded...

DAMN!!
Maazel is one of my very favorite conductors - the guy truly knows what he's doing.

2. He and the orchestra were in top form last night. |

In homage to Bernstein, he did not conduct the overture to "Candide." No one did. It was perfect!
A critic in the NY Times today sniped about the addition of a piece from "Lohengren" because Wagner was such a sh*t person. I thought it was included because 1)it's a crowd pleaser and 2) it was probably part of their "best of" repetoire!
It was aired on public TV out of NYC last night. Perhaps it will be rerun in your area in the near future. Check your listings...
