My Dad's Plane Crash. I love having cosmic questions go unanswered.
You know, the little ones. Like, "Why?"

This came by way of my uncle, from some guy - I dunno who he is but I think he's a member of the ultralight club my dad belonged to. (FYI, My dad crashed in an area that's easily accessible only to off-road motorcyclists.)

"I do not have good news regarding recovery of the wreckage. We had a couple of the guys go out about 2 weeks ago with the intention of making sure the roads and surrounding terrain were dry enough to get in with a truck and trailer and to scout what would be needed in terms of any additional equipment. We were hoping to get it out before it rained again. What we found was some scavengers got in there and dragged it about a 100 feet from where it had been setting and removed most of the aluminum structure leaving only covering materials and some external panels. The engine was also cut out and taken. Even before this some of the engine components had been removed in the 1st week.

"So from an investigation point of view I don't think there is anything left to look at. Everything taken was probably removed for the scrap value. The area is somewhat poor and there are home sites that probably harbor some individuals that are in the meth-lab or related business. If you've been out to the site you may have noticed this yourself. I'm not surprised the wreckage was picked through. The weather, personal schedules, and the flu just never meshed for us so we could get it out sooner."

Shit on a stick. >(

2. Which means
they won't be able to do any decent investigation into why the plan crashed.

Shit! I"m so sorry Bertha, for you to have this pain renewed.

7. hugs & further condolences
bertha,

I'm sorry to hear the further bad news, and I imagine that it must feel like salt on a very-open wound right now.

I can't think of many words that could comfort you. But perhaps you can find some small solace in the fact that due to this scavenging, you may encounter your dad's plane anywhere: a can of juice that you drink, the brushed-aluminum case of your next laptop, or anywhere else that you encounter aluminum. In a way, the industrial ecology has taken your dad's plane back. Instead of answers, you are getting mystery, but perhaps this mystery is a more expansive memorial to your father.

PS- None of these musings are intended in any way to excuse the tweaked-out criminality of the slime-balls who desecrated the crash site. But the world spins in strange ways at times, and I am just hoping you can be more at peace.
