features Dolly coyly postured in a hay bin.

Swear to god.

4. Dolly isn't exactly a demure country tulip, is she.
I think she's mighty talented with powerful charisma.

She has a startlingly inspired version of the Woody Guthrie tune, "Plane Wreck at Los Gatos."

5. Before we start the weekend, a word of praise for Dolly Parton.
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 09:01 AM by Old Crusoe
Some many years ago when she was fairly new to the idea of a solo career, Dolly Parton was the subject of a very positive article in THE VILLAGE VOICE, a publication not always known for its praise of country & western singers.

The article was called "Dolly Parton Is Such Sweet Sorrow," tweaking the Shakespeare line from ROMEO AND JULIET.

Don't know if it's on-line but I'll try to round it up and post it if I can find it.

EDIT / UPDATE:

"Dolly Parton Is Such Sweet Sorrow"

6. Nothing at all against Dolly, but
she used to have some legs! What happened to them? They look like toothpicks!

I suppose that's the current hot look. Guess I'm old fashioned.

Anyway, I'm no country/western fan, but the lady does have a voice!

7. I love Dolly Parton, but
look how thin her arms and legs are now. She does not look healthy anymore. She's got no muscle on her. :(

10. Agree strongly. She's one of 12 kids from a poor family and these days
she has no problems meeting expenses.

Wildly successful and even more resourceful and talented.

12. Nope. Her legs are that long and thin in all her other recent photos
too. :(

It's normal for some people to get really thin when they get older, and she's 60 now. It just looks especially unhealthy with those humongous implants.

13. They're not implants

Unless they were being installed before the early '70s

14. Yes, they are, and she's never denied that.

She's always been very open that she had implants.

EDITED TO ADD: well okay, she hasn't ALWAYS been open about it, but she's admitted it for years. From wiki:

In 2002, she admitted for the first time during interviews in Europe that she has, in fact, had implants. In one interview in the Irish Independent, she said she had gotten breast enhancements at a cost of about $3,000 (which would date them to around the mid-to-late-1980s). Then in the London Mirror, she explained that she decided to get implants after her dramatic weight loss around 1986.

15. Well, anyway, I think she's amazingly talented and wildly successful.
And if you people haven't heard her sing the Guthrie/Hoffman composition, "Plane Wreck at Los Gatos," then in the name of the world's religions, you must.

You must.

16. She's cool and funny, but not attractive to me.
A little...too much, ya know?

And besides, brunettes are the ones that ALWAYS get me.

17. Hi, Forkboy. Well, that's all good. I really like the way she does
music after being for so long the "cowgirl" sidekick of old What's His Name.

I wonder how many people told her she'd never make it in the music business.

18. I'm betting tons.
But she's too cool to listen to negative people, even ones like me. She's a lot of fun.
