14. This is true
I'm used to the horror of Los Angeles prices, but I forget that parts of NYC are far, far worse.

8. A brand new New Orleans placed called Marcela's Cookery
Over in Pioneer Square. I HIGHLY recommend it. I think it was on James Street.

10. Nice. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been in Pioneer Square in the
last year (other than driving through).

Here's a neat recommendation back at you though: Ocho in Ballard. Just a teeny tiny Tapas bar but really delicious and very low key.

20. Well, we were driving down the hill to Pioneer Square because we have a relative in the hospital
And we needed to find somewhere quickly. The owner was standing on the sidewalk trying to drum up business, and after being in the critical care unit of the hospital all day, and ending up in this new restaurant where they pampered and spoiled us, it was a real treat.

21. For me, a little being taken care of is amazingly restorative.
I discovered that after a very rough day, just having a seat at a nice cafe and being served some tea is very rejuvenating. Hard to remember to take that little break though.

Hope your relative (and you!) are doing well now.

22. Well, he's doing a little better (my SO's father)
though he's not out of the woods by any means. Alzheimer's patient with a massive heart attack, though he's hung on very bravely for 9 days now.

Yes, sometimes you just need someone to do for you, I agree.

15. $230 in San Diego
Nobu (a fancy-shmancy Japanese place). Good food, but small portions. If you ever go to one, try the blackened cod :)

16. Thanks for the replies....
Now listen, I'm going to tell you a true story.

First, I'm not going to name the restaurant last night, but suffice to say that it was fancy Italian.

No written menu.

Little Italian guy that spoke the menu in broken English. No prices. I should have known then.

Pretty good meal, but not great. Great service. 3 glasses of wine.

Went back to home base. Smoked a bowl.

Got sick. Not just regular sick. It was like a scene from "The Exorcist" in that bathroom.

While I was getting violently terrible sick and missing the toilet, I actually had a fleeting thought of laughter thinking "well, so much for THAT meal.

17. Damn! That is horrible.
:(

I'm sure the locals here could have shown you better food, that you would keep down, for a fraction of the cost.

I hope you're having a wonderful trip despite all of that.

23. Thanks for all the replies...have not been on much....
Found out today that NYC DOES HAVE reasonably priced restaurants.

God what a great city...but there is no way I could live here.

For those of you DUers that do...I give you a lot of credit.

I love it here, but it's too hectic!!!

How do you get used to this?
