I have tickets for Steve Earl tomorrow night |
|
He's playing a small venue here in Madison, the Barrymore Theater, and I am most definitely looking forward to going.
Here's the tricky part - I am scheduled to work tomorrow and if I show up I'm likely to be forced to work mandatory overtime and will miss the concert.
Do I call-in or bite the bullet and go to work?

2. He is gonna start late I imagine.... |

round 8 or 9? Will you still be working then?
Is he playing with his bluegrass band, solo or his regular band? (and BTW, it's Earle)
I love the guy and have seen him a number of times and he always puts on great show....

3. I saw him a couple of times,he was great all right. |
|
First time was many years ago,he was skinny as a tooth pick and had all his hair. Most of his band got delayed at the border,so it was a real stripped down show. It was fantastic.

and the earliest I could make if if I worked overtime would be 11 pm. The odds of being forced are 8 out of 10 so I pretty much have to choose between work or the concert.
He's doing a solo acoustic show and his wife, Allison Moorer, will open.

5. Earle has a recurring role in "The Wire" as well as the theme song |

He plays a sponsor to a recovering addict at 12 step meetings.
Best TV series ever. He wrote and performed the theme for the show, which is ending its fifth season.

6. Actually, the song was written by Tom Waits, who performed it on the 2nd |
|
season. The Blind Boys of Alabama performed it on the 1st season and Aaron Neville performed it on the 3rd season. And for the 4th,there's a group of kids doing it with a metal/psychedelic twist.
But Earle does do the song for the 5th and(sniff)last season.Definitely the best TV series ever.Hell, maybe the best work ever on film.Gotta work on Sunday night so I'll see the finale Monday night.

7. thanks for the correction |

I thought Earle wrote it. It does sound like a Tom Waits song, however.

8. Understandable you'd think that. Almost everything he's recorded he's also written as well. |
|
Not only one of the best songwriters(I think his body of work since "Train a' Coming" is better than anyone else's in that time span)but also one of the most economical.Dude can tell a story in a little over two minutes that six minutes of Bob Dylan's mumbling these days can't touch.
