1. I would ask them why they're ripping off the Pixies
then shun them for being a tool.

7. My first thought
I used to own the pixies version of that shirt. Bought it at their "Doolittle" tour show, when they opened for (wait for it.....) Love & Rockets back in 1989.

9. Great them graciously and with welcome, since I am the host.
Though I can't imagine any of my friends wearing such a thing.

They seem like rather a silly band.

But, on the other hand, if Trent Reznor thinks they were good enough to open his shows, perhaps they are better than they might appear. I've never heard their music. I'm not big on cabaret but I do like Brecht, so I'm not sure what I'd think of Brechtian punk cabaret.

But, anyway, all of that is beside the point - as host, I would greet the guest warmly and with welcome.

10. But, but, but,,,the chick in Dresden Dolls is classically trained!
As is everyone who ever badly played viola in the 4th grade orchestra
One of my pet peeves is rock/pop musicians who tout their "classical training"
There is a vast gulf between those disingenuous twits and a John Cale.

13. it's all about the wizard knowledge
as far as I can tell, the logic is something like this:

wizards and stonehenge existed in the past.
so did classical music.
if we know as much about classical music as a highschooler, we'll have magical wizard abilities.

I'm also always disgusted when rock bands do this. As someone who really does have ridiculous amounts of classical music education, I can tell you that it doesn't mean that much, and actually has no bearing on making rock music. If I'm listening to a rock band, I'd much prefer that they have rock music experience than some other kind of music. I don't think Johnny or DeedeeRamone had any "classical training", but I'm pretty sure that "blitzkrieg bop" is better than any song by any band that ever advertised their "classical training".

14. How very true.
I studied classical music for decades and was an orchestra person. Piano, violin, voice and choral.

The pop people seem to think that anybody who can play a simple arpeggio is a damn genius.

And Kenny G is NOT jazz, either. Yawwwni is NOT classical, he's mush. Argghh!

18. Ask them if they were intending to make a statement about your food choices ...
Say something like ....

"Hey, thanks for wearing a shirt with PUKE on it to my dinner party. I was afraid I didn't have enough food ... but your shirt should help limit how much people eat." Then laugh like its all funny.

It might embarrass them some, MAYBE remind them that you are going out of your way to arrange something nice, and that as a guest in another's home, they should think about their attire for a second or two longer when dressing.

I'm very, very, informal ... but a shirt with puke on it is not appropriate for a dinner party.
