31. Paternal kitties rule!
It's kinda weird to me; Puck is female and HATES kittens, but Oberon can't get enough of them (though he's thankfully not the Michael Jackson of kittydom, if you know what I mean). I've heard of other male cats who love caring for kittens too-wonder what's with that?

Sometimes they have adults for adoption too. Petfinder also has Maine Coon rescue groups. They are GREAT family cats; very loyal and laid back, and perfect for spooning with on a cold night. And, oddly enough, even though they are twice the size of an average house cat they don't seem to eat any more than a ten pound kitty does.

42. It boggles my little mind that there's even a NEED for maine coon rescue groups.
For some breeds (especially some dog breeds), I can understand how people can end up with a pet they don't understand or can't handle, but maine coons are such good-tempered, lovable giants--I just don't get it. One of my two has a little maine coon in him, and he's the sweetest creature I've ever encountered.

48. More often than not I think they come from homes where the owners either
die, are put into assisted care facilities, or can no longer afford to keep pets (as is happening all over America thanks to foreclosures and the recession). I used to do pet rescue here in Florida, and many of our purebred cats came from such situations.DUer RadFemFl adopted a 10 year old purebred Persian from me whose owner was put into assisted living. The only purebreds that ever came to me simply because they were dumped were a pair of Bengals. They were gorgeous-but very mean tempered (too much Asian Leopard cat-frankly, I wish there were a ban on such hybrids). I'm always telling families who are dog lovers but too busy to keep dogs that Maine Coons are an excellent substitute-probably better for young children than most dog breeds as they are so patient, yet still very playful. I've adopted out three Maine Coon mixes and their new guardians couldn't be happier with them!

28. Just bad news.
It's definitely a tumor. We're just waiting for the lab work to know exactly what kind. :(

The worst news is that when the vet checked his brother, Silver, there is a smaller, softer but definitely present lump under his skin in exactly the same place.

That's where both of them got their vacinations. And the type of cancer the vet suspects is known to be caused by the vaccine.

So I'm definitely losing one of my cats soon, and the other might follow him. :(

Gray is home right now, and I've spent most of the afternoon on the floor with him. Silver is at the vets overnight getting the same tests that Gray got last night.

I don't know. I guess it's a common vaccine that most cats get. He says it's well known that this vaccine causes this one type of cancer in some cats.

21. I was emailed this address to write to about the dad:
"THE DELAWARE COUNTY (IN) PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE:"- MmcKinney@co.delaware.in.us

sample letter:

Dear Mr. McKinney,
I strongly urge the Delaware County Prosecutor's office to prosecute Danield J. Collins to the fullest extent of the law for child and animal abuse. Please make a powerful statement through your prosecution of this matter to tell all that this, and like behavior is not taken lightly and absolutely will not be tolerated in our society!

I didn't double check the address, it's what I was just sent from ASPCA Online.
