What is the deal with monster.com? Is this just a weird coincidence? |
|
I saw a job I was interested posted on monster.com on 2/19. Since then I have been working on my resume/cover letter and hemming and hawing about the job.
Finally Saturday morning 3/15 I decided to apply if it was still posted. I went to the company's website and it showed still open. I went to monster.com but did not see any posting for the job more recent than 2/19. So I posted my resume and cover at the company website.
On 3/16 the job was back on monster.com with a post date of 3/15.
So, was it just a coincidence that the same day I applied it went back on monster.com? Or because I applied did it somehow generate a message back to monster.com?
I am kind of suspicious of monster.com because I see lots of jobs on there by staffing agencies that show unbelievable salaries.
Have you ever used monster.com and what % of jobs do you think are legit?

1. I got my current job through monster.com |
|
But that was in 2001. Needless to say, I have not been back there in awhile.
But, I submitted my resume, the company recruiter called, and we were off to the races.

2. Thanks. I applied once through monster.com but didn't get |
|
any bites so I didn't want to get my hopes up if the job I posted for wasn't real.
I know some temp agencies advertise jobs just to collect resumes and it would tick me off if I spent all the time I did for a scam.

3. Well, if you are in the market for a new job |
|
you need a good updated resume anyway.
I put my resume on monster.com and I got a couple of emails and a couple of calls one from as far away as Washington state. I lived in Florida at the time. I have never responeded to a particular job ad.

6. Yes, my resume is an ongoing project that I usually adjust depending |
|
on the job I'm applying for. It's the cover letter that takes me so damn long, I think I may be personalizing it a little too much.

4. Perhaps the HR person saw your resume, realized it they had to renew the posting on monster |
|
and did so. Not a 'great' sign for your chances, of course, but good luck.
I found my current job from monster.com - but went to the company's website like you, and contacted them through it not monster.

5. Yeah, I was thinking that except I wouldn't be expecting HR |
|
to be working on a Saturday. Who knows? I'm glad to hear some success stories using monster.com, they do seem to have a lot of jobs in my area but I never seem to have ALL of the qualifications.

8. Hmmm, I never thought about it that way - maybe I'm narrowing |
|
my search too much. I've always looked at job postings as minimum requirements.
I did apply anyways, we'll see what happens. Thanks!
