Would like some advice: To quit or not to quit that is the question. |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 09:13 PM by HereSince1628
I taught 6 weeks (mid jan thru the last of Feb) at a small private women's college and had to fight for my paycheck
Now at the end of March (2 weeks after resolving the original problem with the previous month and one half) I didn't get paid again.
Would you quit or not?

Do your best to look into their financials; if ok, then tell them of your issue, and 'threaten.' If not good, then quit. IMO.

6. Ideas? Not beyond the obvious...something went wrong. |

I'm camping out in the President's anteroom tomorrow starting at 7 AM.
Once upon a time I loved teaching college biology. However, teaching students who average 53% on the coursework has challenged that.

4. who can you talk to there? |
|
if you're new to their 'system', that doesn't surprise me; you might have to be very persistent. It also depends on how much you need the job, you know?

11. Yeah, that's way beyond a reasonable timeframe |
|
to get into the system.
You think it's a little sexism-in-action? That doesn't sound implausible.

5. Kinda depends on why you didn't get your checks. |
|
If they are insolvent or close to it, I'd start looking for another job. Did anyone else have this problem? Or was it just you? Or a glitch?

It's no fun trying to teach biology in single syllable words.

13. is there any possibility that it could be your wages are being attached? |
|
friend of mine was furious that they screwed up his paycheck for several pay periods in a row. When he finally got around to looking into it, turned out the IRS had seized it. Not trying to imply that you're having IRS issues or anything but is it possible that there's some kind of a mistake like that happening?

14. I don't know about that school in particular |
|
But don't give up on teaching as a whole. One school is not the same as another, one student is not the same as another.
Some of us students can have a hard start, but get a passion for it from a teacher who cares. I had one Prof who got through my Business oriented facade very early early on, and I came out a full fledged Bio major with a degree and everything. And now I talk about tardigrades, and learn what I can.
