Anyone know a word for a person who is overly 'nice'? |
|
Have you ever met a person who was overly contrary but did it in a very 'nice' way. Always with a smile. The kind of response you get that can't be criticized directly for how it is delivered. Usually it is passive aggressive in some way. Always covered with sugar and a smiley face but always contradictory and not truly forthcoming. I don't know if I'm describing what I mean very well. Lets put it this way: Although I'm a relatively patient person and 'nice enough' most of the time, there are some people that just drive me up a wall. Worse, there are some I suspect employ this 'nice' facade to deliberately drive one mad. When engaged in a discussion they aren't sincere, they don't actually have an interest in a back-and-forth discussion but want to use it as an opportunity to further their agenda. At the same time the do it with a smiley. I view it as a tactic. Anyone else know what I mean? Anyone have a good word -- I mean something other than 'jerk' or 'ass hat', which may be correct but as soon as you fall into the trap of reacting to their overly 'nice' behavior or let them get your goat in this way, they use THAT against you?
Thanks in advance.

2. Passive Aggressive works. |
|
I know the type...
The phrase "Nice girls can be the worst bitches" describes it to a tee.

8. Yeah, I know but I'm looking for one word, not a phrase and besides |
|
"passive aggressive," though accurate perhaps, sounds too analytical, specifically psychological.
Surely there is a word for this?

14. That isn't quite it. Fastidious means difficult to please. |
|
True, the kind of behavior I'm trying to describe doesn't please easily but it is specifically the disagreement that is all smiles -- and, I think, knowing it is going to be irritating.
