I've been rent-to-own at a company for a liitle over a month. Last Friday I got an offer for permananet which I gladly accepted. Boss told me how impressed he was with my performance. Today the boss calls me in and says "We're rescinding the offer" and 10 minutes later I was on my home. No reason, no explanation, just "see ya". Once the shock wears off I'm going to be really pissed.

for your sympathies, it helps to know I'm not alone in this boat. I really don't know how it happened. I got the offer last Friday, had to fill out paperwork and get drug tested. Did that and turned it all in Tuesday. Missed a few lines on one of the sheets and was asked to complete them, today, did that and turned it at 10:15 AM. I was out the door before 11:15. No, "you failed the drug test" (which I couldn't have) or "you lied on your resume" (which I didn't). Just "see ya". My boss said he was given no reason either, and I believe him as he was visibly upset. I just wish they has said something like "We don't like you", "you're incompetent", "been a change in plans", "you ate pb&j at your desk every single day this week". All I got was "bye"

13. It sounds like it wasn't about you |
|
Sounds more like you got caught up in cost-cutting.
Sometimes these things work out in your favor in the long run.
Good luck!

15. Sometimes I wonder how so many companies manage to survive some of |

the people running them. Let's hope something better turns up fast so you can chalk this up as a lucky escape from a bad place.

16. I have some seemingly silly questions. |
|
Do you eat either poppyseed rolls or bagels with any frequency? Or recently?
Do you take a multi-vitamin formulated for vegetarians or vegans?
Is your diet overwhelming made up of red meat or pork? (we're talking 50% of diet or more.)(I realize this is unlikely.)

18. Those are very good questions. |

I would be off to the drug store to get a drug test and see if anything popped up in it. It won't help with this job, but I would want to know for sure before I was drug tested for another job. It all sounds like there may be something to your theory.

I spent two minutes staring at the screen, dumbfounded.
How did it happen?
I'm sorry - hope you'll find something better.

6. Good riddance to that company. |
|
They are obviously a dithery lot and you are lucky to be out of a company that hires you one week then fires you the next without any explanation. Good luck in your next job!

8. Sorry that happened to you. |

Why the idiots did this doesn't really matter, but if I had to guess, I'd say either money (they couldn't hire anyone on full time) or they're saving the job for somebody's relative.
Anyway, hope you go on to better things!

17. Heartless is a good word |
|
and I believe a company has a right to employ or not employ whomever they want. But the real pisser is that while I was there I got lots of calls from other recruiters with jobs that I said no to. I wasn't going to screw my boss and his plans because I thought I found something better. That just didn't seem right, especially since every indicator I got was that I was going to be taken on permanently. That little piece of innocence or naivete is gone from me now. Next time I'm just looking out for number one, and I hate that that's now how I have to think and feel. Why can't people just treat people decently? It's not that hard.

20. Is there anything in the background check? Friend of mine had a DUI |
|
many years ago, it showed up in the background and she was let go. This was in Florida, so who knows.

14. Sounds as if they were told they couldn't hire someone permanently |
|
It stinks, but at least you know you were good enough (and liked enough) to be in consideration, so your work product is good.
I don't think I'd term it as "fired" - more like, not hired this time around.
Take care!
