Just got back from a memorial service
of friend and neighbor from 25 years ago....

he was a cop in a neighboring town and they moved to FL a few years ago after he retired, then he came down with Pancreatic cancer....
Us "girls" bowled every Weds night for years.....

the name of our team was 5 Easy Pieces :) .

anyway since he was a cop up here and his family lived here
his wife decided to have a service up here for all us NJ people

They were married 32 years, a second marriage for her and she came into the marriage with 3 kids...
Unless you asked or knew their story.... You would have never known.....

Well today they were called his step-children... and yes by rights they were ,but when the youngest got up to talk....
she let it be known they were "his" kids not "step"
and how anyone can be a father but it takes someone special to be a Dad
and he was Dad

anyway we were sitting 2 pews from the front and they had a honor guard standing at attention for an hour....
when Kathy got up to tell everyone about her Dad and their life as a family together.... he was crying

did not move a muscle, I don't think he sniffed.... but the tears were rolling.... it was very humbling to see this menacing PO
crying at a funeral for a man he didn't even know.... he is a newbie on the force and only knew Donny by name....

another reflection on this day was a little personal....
and made me very sad.....
and a little angry

so anyway, just wanted to tell you all a story

a long and some what boring story... so I do apologize for that

another reason to hug your family and let them know you love them.....

1. Not too long and not at all boring.
What a moving scene that must have been, seeing the tears, listening to his daughter proclaim that he was indeed "Dad"

I've been to many memorial services. (worked in the funeral business for a while). I often wish and hope that people get a chance to say the wonderful things they say, before the person passes.
