Ha! A cute little story about my nephew and video games...
So he wanted to play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on my computer(I have an emulator, don't ask ;)). Anyways, so he was playing it for a while, and one of my kitties was laying down next to him, and apparently got disturbed by one of the noises coming from the game. My nephew then paused the game and said this to the kitty: "Its ok kitty, the game can't hurt you, its not real, its TV."

The kicker is that he's not even 4 yet! :D

Oh, and before people start complaining that I'm rotting his brain, or that I'm a terrible Uncle, we are getting ready to go to the library so he can get some books we can read to him, I'm hoping that in the next few months, he'll start reading them himself. Unfortunately all the books that were mine at his age are in storage, several miles from here, so the library is the next best thing.

You wouldn't believe what he did, his first time at the library and he was overwhelmed by the amount of books there. He ended up just picking up books he wanted to see in the children's section, a total of 11 books for him alone, Dr. Seuss, some about characters he knows about on TV, like Thomas the train, Blue's clues, etc. I told him we can come back to get more later, he was excited. I would say a little too excited when he started running down the aisles, it was fun chasing him around but damn was he fast! :)

6. LOL
Good thing they don't take too long to read. You've got some work ahead of you.

Turning him on to books and the library is an awesome thing to do.

Heck, I still get that feeling when I go into the library. Just like being a little kid again.

2. Smart kid. :)
The original Nintendo TMNT game? Man, that one was a pain in the ass. Even using an emulator and cheating and saving state every now and then when I get through a section particularly fast without taking much/any damage, I still can't get past that damn underwater sequence.

4. Oh hell no, I don't want him to destroy my computer!
That game was an exercise in frustration for me, I beat it once, as a kid, and never was able to repeat that feat.

No, the game we played was the arcade version of TMNT: Turtles in Time, on MAME. Up to four players can cooperate in playing it.

5. Ah the quarter eater. :)
The Nintendo version for that one is pretty much impossible too... because really the only concievable way to get through it or the original TMNT arcade game is to keep feeding quarters in after you die. :P

7. My nephew was playing GTA Vice City one day...
He was 12 at the time (I wouldn't have let him, but my sister doesn't mind). So he's mowing people down with a bus, giggling away like a madman. Then he gets the helicopter and continues his rampage, laughing the whole time. So I say to him, "That stuff is funny in the game, but you know it's not so funny in real life, right?" He looks at me like I have eight heads and says, "Duh...I know!"

Kids are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. He's 18 now and pretty well adjusted, GTA or not. :)

8. Could you send your nephew over to my house?
I was never good enough at GTA to make it past the first couple of missions.

Guess I wasn't cut out to be thug.
