Ladies - I have a wedding etiquette question. |
|
Is it okay to wear red to a wedding? It is at 5:00 if that helps - outside, then moving inside for the reception. I am aunt of the bride and wedding planner so don't want to commit a faux pas. I found a dress I liked but am having second thoughts.

Traditionally, you can wear anything but white or black. And nowadays, as long as you don't look like you are the bride or at a funeral, nobody much cares about that.
Are you thinking that you'll look like you are trying to take attention away from the bride? You don't want to do that, but IMO, there's nothing wrong with the color red as long as the dress itself is appropriate.

If you're a guy, a bright red suit might seem a bit out of place.

3. Do you know what color the wedding party is wearing? |
|
Don't wear that.
I went to a semiformal wedding where I didn't know what the bridesmaids were wearing and ended up in a dress that was not the same cut, but was the identical fabric. I was mortified.

4. They are wearing black |
|
(which was totally not allowed when I got married many moons ago but is done a lot now) so I have been avoiding black, which has been hard, since all the dresses I have liked are black. Okay - I'll be brave and be bright.

7. Heck, if they're wearing black, black should be fine. |
|
The "little black dress" is just too ubiquitous for 100 guests to avoid.
To the OP: It's less an issue of color and more an issue of everything else--I wouldn't wear head-to-toe fire-engine red with matching tiara, but tasteful red should be fine.

I am looking for an outfit to wear to a wedding. And I went into a chain storea at the mall and explained my situation and the first thing the saleslady points me to is a white skirt...and says you could wear this with a blue top....ugh!
And then another salesperson teams me up with BLACK...I had to gracefully exit...
I hate shopping in my neighborhood....

11. Why only ladies? At any rate, wear what ever you want. You aren't in the party. n/t |

12. Sure, as long as the bride's not wearing red, and it won't clash with |
|
the wedding party. If they're in black, red should be stunning. Congrats to your niece - hope the wedding is lovely, and the marriage even better :hi:
