I had a sweet part-time telecommuting programming gig that was supplementing our regular income with enough cash to get us out of debt in 6 more months, except for student loans. Then they lost their biggest client and software partner in the same week, and us part-timers were laid off while they struggled to survive.
So now I pound the pavement (er, Craig's List, amongst other web sites) nightly looking for more work, in the throes of a recession. I have a small job lined up for May.
We were so close to getting out from under the debt monster - credit card debt left over from medical problems like 6 years ago. 6 more months and we would have made it!!!
At least I still have my day job, even if DoD work is killing my soul. My sympathies to those DUers who are looking for work under more dire circumstances.

1. I have found that the only thing worse than... |

working is looking for work.
