Freethinker Pride!
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 12:55 PM by Taverner
You know, I think we Atheists need a pride day out there :)

If we aren't loud, we aren't proud...and if we aren't proud, we'll never get respect.

2. LOL
I don't like the term Atheist because it defines my beliefs in contrast to something that I don't beleive in. As Dawkins said everyone is an Atheist to most Gods, we Freethinkers just have one less.

3. how about..
GODLESS? Doesn't that sound like Pure Evil? lol

(I guess I could get into the Earth-type religions but anyway I don't want to join a group and give it a name, except Indifferent.)

4. I may be alone in this, but...
I hate the term "freethinker" as an overarching descriptor, more than "atheist", a lot more than "bright", more than "non-theist" or "godless". Reality is there are, in my experience, as many different flavors of non-belief in a god as there are religions.

Me, I'm a secular humanist. I realize that label doesn't work for everybody either.

Some of us aren't humanists. Some are existentialists. Some don't think at all or are as narrow as the average fundamentalist. Some are freethinkers. Some are indifferent to the notion of God. Some are militant in their opposition to organized religion. Some reject creation and believe in the supernatural. Certainly, there is a need for an overarching label, but there is also a need for taxonomy of non-beliefs.
