Poll question: Baseball fans: AL, NL, both, neither?
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 05:31 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
I suppose I don't care much either way, but I've grown up with AL ball clubs, so I guess that's what I'm used to--yeah, I'm a Red Sox fan who hates the Yankees. :D

I do know a few virulent NL "extremists," as my uncle calls them, who insist that AL ball sucks, and a few AL "extremists" as well. :)

1. NL
More thoughtful, basic baseball. Pitchers/hitters work hard, but don't try to over power. No DH.

2. NL, mainly because of the DH and there is one less way for the Yankees or the Red Sox
to buy a World Series ring. Plus, I lived in Tallahassee when I was going to school and watched the Braves on cable TV whenever they were on.

3. Cue the DH haters.
Kind of like hating the QB for sliding feet first, or the kicker for missing the tackle.

9. Actually it's nothing like the QB sliding feet first or the kicker missing the tackle
It was a fundamental rule change that altered the game considerably,IMO. I admit that it has added excitement to the game and maybe even extended some players careers, I just prefer the game without the DH.

10. Actually, it is.
It's just not in the rule book that the QB and kicker should be the best at what they specifically do and not be expected to do what other players excel at.

But then, having some .090 batter up half-assing it is brilliant. Sometimes, in sports, defense is just that. I wouldn't expect the goalie to score many points.

11. Once again, it was a RULE CHANGE that brought about the DH from the original rules of the game.
I believe that both leagues should have the same rules regarding the DH and all I was saying is that I prefer the original rules. Your snarky comment about having "some .090 batter up half assing it is brilliant" really wasn't necessary. I didn't invent the rules of the game.

13. Snarky, but true.
I agree, both leagues should have the same rules. Completely agree. Looking forward to the NL stepping up to recognize that pitchers shouldn't bat.

14. It HAS been a long time. I really don't know why they haven't.
It's not like they're afraid of losing their dominance of the World Series!

19. I would rather see a DH bat than watch the pitcher strike out...
...any day. AL rules.

21. Oh, so you'd probably not like a hockey goalie playing right wing, either, eh?
Right. Defense. Offense. Good call.

Because ball clubs have nine players.

20. The National League - where pitchers swing the bat and often miss.
I have nothing against the DH. I think it's something that distinguishes the leagues from one another, and if you go back far enough in baseball's history, you'll see that the first professional leagues were all about boasting their differences in order to draw players from the other young pro leagues away.

But I like a number of teams in NL - maybe it's because I live in a National League team region, and I've only seen some of the AL teams once or twice.
