And people say Economics is boring! |
|
I'm re-reading "A Woman's Place is at the Typewriter: The Feminization of the Clerical Labor Force"
Actually, it's a fascinating piece, from Radical America, circa 1974.
And did you know that Mark Twain called the typewriter a "curiosity breeding little joker"?! :D

1. I thought of you yesterday at the book festival - panel on the economy |
|
It was actually scary as hell--Kevin Phillips was part of the panel, and talking about his new book Mad Money. He was pretty much the scariest guy at the festival, because his predictions are almost always right. :scared:
The panel also got into a discussion on behavior economics--you'd have loved it!

3. They almost always replay the panels over the next few weekends on BookTV. |
|
In fact, the CSPAN camera guy was about two feet away from me at that particular panel, so I know they taped it. Phillips also has a new article called "Numbers Racket" in the latest edition of Harpers (they mentioned that yesterday when they introduced him).
Michael Schermer (also on the panel, and publisher of Skeptic magazine) and Phillips did the most talking back and forth about behavioral economics, mostly in terms of how it's helped get us into this current mess, and why people aren't getting how bad it potentially could get.

Economics makes absolutely no sense to me - makes my brain hurt. But I can bore a room to tears talking about history. :D

8. It's really not like that! |
|
We're not all finance, interest rates, and graphs! I mean, some of us are, but there's a wild world of Econ out there! I was just brainstorming an essay for incoming Econ majors titled "What is Economics?"...Yes, this is what I do in my free time, between essay writing.
I <3 history. :9
