Saturday Night, we saw The Living Reincarnation of Paganinni.
As some know, Deb and I LIVE for our DSO concerts. Usually they are excellent, sometimes OK, occasionally....

On Saturday night we experienced the The Living Reincarnation of Paganinni play the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto No. 1.

Hillary Hahn, Soloist

We were spiritually and emotional astounded. This young, articulate woman came on stage and COMPELLED her violin to create music that was indescribable: it was everything from a frenetic dance to passionate lovemaking. We had missed a chance to see her perform last year: we never will again, even if we have to buy the concert outside of series. Deb and I have talked about this concert non-stop since then.

If any of you are near any of these venues and times and do not see this young woman ARTICULATE either of these masterpieces, then you have missed a once in a lifetime opportunity:

May 3 USA South Bend, IN

1. What? No classical music fans here?
You HAVE to be kidding me.

2. It's a shame more don't appreciate this sort of thing.
A fine and beautiful expression of the human spirit, both in composition and performance; easily appreciated, and completely accessible.

Hell, I STILL feel inspired, 3 days later.

3. No kidding
I finally, after many years of "not getting around to it", got my fanny to a symphony concert, at the Madison Symphony yesterday for a performance of Shostakovich's Festival Overture, Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto, and Tchaikovsky's 6th. It featured Russian guest conductor Vladimir Spivakov and pianist Yefmin Bronfman. Why did I ever wait so long to get to a live orchestra? Recordings are all well and good, but live...what an experience! I'm going to try and *not* miss the next season's concerts...what a thrill!

I see she's in Milwaukee end of this month...I'll have to see what my schedule's like. A good violinist is thrilling to see and hear...

5. That's what she played in Detroit....
We were on our feet before the last notes stopped resonating.

I get shivers just remembering it.

4. She's very good
I've seen her a couple of times wtih the St. Louis Symphony and was very impressed. She's certainly near the top of the heap of the new generation of concert violinists.

6. The quote about Paganinni comes from "Kultura" magazine in Russia.
If anyone knows violinists, it's the Russians.

8. I hear ya
I mean, I love Rush (I'm a huge prog and jazz fan) but the art of music just doesn't get any higher than classical music...I can't wait for this summer's Saturday morning drop-in organ concerts. Those should be fantastic, and the shows are free. A church downtown has Wednesday lunchtime free organ concerts on a 70-some rank Austin...I'm fixing to hit those. Can't turn down a free classical concert... :)

9. Ooo I hate you.
Deb is lukewarm on Organ, but Bach still trips her trigger.

10. After hearing Classical Music decried as Racist, I insist on some support here.
How about it? You can't ALL be "Travis Tritt" lovers.

12. Racist?
Well...Wagner and Richard Strauss had their ugly moments, admittedly. And I've met some who might as well join the KKK. But I don't believe people involved with classical music are any more racist than the rest of the population. I'd even venture to say that most are quite liberal in their views.

If I were not rehearsing/performing on 5/8, 9, and 10 myself, I'd love to hear her play. :hi:

14. Yep. Someone thinks us Mozart/Beethoven/Handel white folks is a little racist.
Not to bring up a sore subject. That's as far as I go off PM.
