Florida 'bikini mate' loses teaching job

FORT PIERCE, Fla., May 1 (UPI) -- A Florida science teacher contends she was fired because she was moonlighting as a "bikini mate" on a charter fishing boat.

Tiffany Shepherd, 30, was bounced from Port St. Lucie High School staff officially because of absenteeism. However, she has been telling the media that the district didn't approve of her fetching drinks and sandwiches while dressed in a swimsuit.

"I want to make sure that I'll be able to teach, if not in the county, then in the state of Florida," she told The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post, adding she would continue her sea-faring career for the time being.

The Post said Shepherd has been inundated with media inquiries since the story broke, and Fort Pierce charter skipper "Captain Gil" Coombes says he has seen a spike in his business.

 You deserve a DUZY for that one!

Eidt: As a woman, I have to say that she looks really hot in that bikini! She's very pretty and has a great figure. How does her being a bikini waitress on a charter boat hurt the school kids?
The school district administration is totally wrong to do this to her.

13. What do you expect from Florida?
They were probably more angry about her teaching science than they were about her wearing a bathing suit in her other job.

No offense to any Florida posters here, but I lived in that state and much of it is a frothing conservative cesspool of the worst sort. While living there I wondered if everyone believed the world is round or flat, and was afraid to ask anyone. I certainly got sick of hearing the N-word every other sentence.

I never want to move back to that accursed state.

19. I grew up in Sarasota, and while the racism wasn't that blatant, it was certainly there.
There were maybe two black girls (and I don't think any black guys) in my HS graduating class's honors program. Mind you, the one I had classes with was damn well qualified to be there.

25. It depends on where you are
There are parts of the state that are actually pretty liberal, but I lived on the border between the Tampa suburbs and the rural areas beyond. I hear St. Pete across the 'bay isn't quite as infested with FOX News zombies and evolution-deniers, but I never got around to verifying that for myself.

Certain parts of Miami are also much more liberal.

26. Can't say I blame you
While I was going to high school there, an Air Force colonel from the nearby base decided to retire and build a nice home in a nice neighborhood in the general vicinity of the base. His house wasn't even finished and the local assholes were already burning crosses in his yard.

He said that if it weren't for the fact that he had small children, he would've moved in just to spite them.

That really sickened me. Here was a man who spent his entire adult life ready to die for the very savages who vandalized his home and terrified his young children. What made the whole thing appalling was that people were at my high school the next morning laughing about it. Laughing about how they really taught that "n-word" a lesson. I gave the assholes a piece of my mind, but didn't bother reporting it to the police because I didn't believe the local authorities would do anything about it.

Mind you, this was in 1985 or 1986, not the 1950s.

Sick bastards.

27. Yeah, I remember that a newspaper in the area found a Klan member list from the mid-80s
Edited on Sun May-04-08 04:14 PM by DarkTirade
and several major officials in Orange County were on that list.

Thankfully I didn't move there until the late-ish 80s (I think it was 87 or 88, but don't quote me), and over the years there was enough of an influx of people moving in that it wasn't like that by the time I was old enough to know about that sort of thing.

There are still some areas that in the state that are pretty bad though. My old roommate was from Ft. Myers, and there's a klan meeting house right outside of her neighborhood. She was interested in a black friend of ours for a while, but she was afraid to take him home just because she knew she'd have to drive past that building to get to her house.

32. Well she doesn't live there anymore, it's her parents' house.
I was just saying she was afraid to take a black man home to her parents... even though her parents wouldn't have had a problem with it at all. She was afraid to do it because she was afraid for his safety on the way there.

And to those who would bash Florida? Ok, I'll be the first to admit that I live in one of the crappiest places in America. And I'm not the smartest guy in world (I was educated here as well)... But I am in the perfect location to call "Dibbs!" on that hot ass teacher!

I like science! It's like climbing the rope in gym class...

God hates us. Mind you, one of my English Lit teachers was almost as hot -- had she been fifteen years younger, nobody would have noticed bikini-girl if they were in the same room.
