A hypothetical question for James Bond Fans... |
|
Suppose you are in charge of choosing movies for a weekend James Bond Film Festival. Given the following criteria, which films do you select.
1: There are a total of nine films comprising this festival, a matinée, an evening and a late night showing on each day.
2: You must feature at least one film starring each actor to play James Bond. This means you must show On Her majesty's Secret Service, the 2006 version of Casino Royale, and at least one of Timothy Dalton's craptacular Bond flicks.
3: You are in no way obliged to show any of the "Unofficial" Bond Films, such as the 1967 Version of Casino Royale or Never Say Never Again
My Lineup: (Chronological order for me)
Goldfinger
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Diamonds are Forever
The Spy Who Loved Me
Octopussy
Licence to Kill
GoldenEye
Casino Royale

BTW: Dalton understood the role of Bond well.
And to me, Pierce Brosnan was not Bond. He was a cheap caricature of Moore.

2. Not what I would choose |
|
One simply MUST include the first one - criminal not to, really. And I'd ditch Octopussy - it's really not very good. In comparison to Moore's other ones it stands out as a good one, but it's not really very good. It oppressively reeks of the 1980s.
Here's how I'd do it, and the order in which I'd do it, arranging movie show times based on time of day they're being shown based on the seriousness of the movie, how well it's done, and so on:
Day 1:
Goldfinger - Connery (to really set the mood for a weekend of Bond) On Her Majesty's Secret Service - What's his name Casino Royale (the new one) - Craig
Day 2:
The Living Daylights - Dalton Goldeneye - Brosnan Live and Let Die - Moore
Day 3:
The Man with the Golden Gun - Moore Tomorrow Never Dies - Brosnan (I have to include this one because it's good, and also because Pryce's performance is so phenomenally glorious) From Russia With Love - Connery

3. The Man With the Golden Gun? Please explain yourself. |
|
OK, it has Christopher Lee in it, but IMHO, The Spy Who Loved Me was better, well, except for the disco-inspired soundtrack.
At least nobody here chose Moonraker :puke:

4. I love Man with the Golden Gun - but apparently I'm one of the few |
|
Replace it with Thunderball, then. Or The Spy Who Loved Me, which is also a great one.
And yes, Moonraker is a total embarrassing pile of shit.
