2. The comments are fun to read.
Sounds like the general public is getting tired of that kind of action in Florida.

He should go work for *ush. Didn't the Chimperor say he didn't have a magic wand to wave?

3. A comment on the second page is priceless
From Florida Head Wizard:

Well, actually he IS one of our wizards, and was on special assignment to imprison the souls of children using an enchanted toothpick.

And he would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!

6. And there's this as well
Oh maybe he could summon that tacky wizard from the T-mobile ads! He knows the Elves, they are always chatting him up. They could invade pasco and take the backwater principal back to fantasy land.:)

Oh, by the way, let's not downplay the significant harm wizardry in the classroom can wreak. I and a dozen or so students were magically doused with the shards of a huge fluorescent light bulb after I stupidly hit it with a squirt gun (cold water).

18. And you all know the worst of it - it means some people actually believe wizards exists.
And that wizardry is a real thing.

That's what got me most about the Harry Potter stuff - it isn't just that people were offended by fake wizardry or pretend magic (which I could see, while not agreeing with, just as some are offended by fake violence in movies, for instance).

But it's that so many who are against Harry Potter because they actually think that magic is actually real. These also tend to be the people who think that either humans and dinosaurs existed together or that Satan put dinosaur bones in the ground to lead us away from God. So maybe it's not surprising that they think that magic actually exists.

They're clearly the most clueless, ignorant shitpiles every to walk the earth.

I generally like to know who I am ass-reaming for stupidity. People tend not to like the salutation "It", as in:

Dear It M. Whaley:

I am writing concerning the termination of Jim Piculas, a substitute teacher at Rushe Middle School.

As a former education and literacy activist, I used to wonder why Florida's literacy scores on the US Dept. of Education's CASAS assessment of literacy achievement ranged from abysmal(1.2) to merely pathetic(2.6) on a 5-point scale. I now understand completely if this is really what you feel is the foremost issue that the Pasco Co. School District has to deal with. Your school district puts up some of the worst scores in the entire state of Florida, a state which scored 43rd of 50 states in literacy achievement. Really? Wizardry is a more serious threat to the future of Pasco's children than the fact that they can't read well enough to score better on a literacy assessment than they would have if they simply guessed, can't score better than the average immigrant from the non-English speaking world? I can hear you now: "Pasco fail English? That's unpossible."

This is why I'll never send my children to Pasco County's public schools, they're run by people like you.

Sincerely yours,

J. Channing XXXXXX

we had an entire school assembly to see some guy perform "magic tricks." I'm not sure what the educational value of that was, but it was fun and nobody got their panties in a wad over it. We had all kinds of entertaining assemblies of dubious educational value.

27. The school board I went to school under was flooded with Mormon types,
Edited on Mon May-05-08 05:06 PM by Herdin_Cats
who, although extremely uptight in some ways (like measuring our shorts to make sure they were long enough), never cared about a little sleight of hand. Although one of my more eccentric Jr. High teachers got in a small amount of trouble for demonstrating hypnosis on his students, but he didn't get suspended or anything. He was just politely asked to stop. And he did. To be honest, I agree that he shouldn't have done it without permission from parents. But it was educational. Especially to those like me who volunteered to be subjects. (My parents didn't care. Dad was totally into therapeutic hypnosis.) We learned about the real phenomenon of hypnosis as opposed to stage hypnosis, which I think is usually faked.

But, yes, I did go to elementary school in the eighties before this kind of bullshit from the Moral Majority types got completely out of control.

(Edited twice for grammar. You'd think I went to some podunk school in rural Utah or somethin'.)
