I have three tattoos but I've never posted the pictures of them. They're old and blurry, the photos and the actual tattoos.
They're all from books- a cat from Edward Gorey, a fairy from the Fraud book, and Serendipity the Sea Serpent from a children's book series.

But it's faded and blurred quite a bit, even though I use factor 60+ sunscreen and wear long sleeves. I once knew a surgeon who had a Tweety bird on his right forearm, and a stockbroker who had a skull and crossbones. I think these guys must have inhaled at one time. Deeply.

I've got a modest, old fashioned "USN" and "anchor" on the upper forearm. After the design was agreed on and I was waiting to go under the knife (so to speak), a young dude burst into the place all upset.

In front of us pigeons he raged and complained to the tatoo dude (who was going to do me) that he had wanted a jaguar's head and showed the very unsatisfactory results to us all, which he correctly said looked like a jackel.


Dilemma, what to do, what to do----run out the front door or go ahead. Since my design was so predictable and static I decided to go ahead.

Now, so many years later, the problem is that it was too cautious: Not big enough, and the old blue lines have blurred so that it's barely readable. But since my physique has done what it's done with the years, nobody gets to see it anyway.

I really love the colors and detail in yours! Mine has purples and blues that you can't see in the picture. I've had it for 10 years this month.

The backstory on mine is that it's a copy of a canvas (like 4'x6') which I saw in a Thai restaurant in Lawrence, KS. I wanted to buy it, but it was ~$2500. That was out of the question for my "college student" finances, so I opted for a tattoo version.

My husband and I saw the Dalai Lama speak a few times and we went to see the Tibetan monks when they came to SUNY New Paltz and performed. I was always particularly drawn to the eyes of Buddha. I found a journal with a picture of it in one of those little stores while in NYC one time so that is what I gave to my friend who did my tattoo.

I have a memorial for my daughter; it's a cross with a crown of thorns and a rose blooming off the crown, and I have a medieval unicorn woodcut repro.

My next two I have planned are going to be a Luther Rose and planet earth (memorial for my dad, and in honor of my mom) and I'd like to do a piece for my in-laws (my MIL's rosary, with the last set of links in the chain as a double helix, since my FIL's name was Gene :-) )

I like what I saw on a forum somewhere:

"Getting a tatoo is like being in 1979 and having platform shoes welded to your feet".

I have a visceral reaction to them, and I apologize if it offends anyone. To me, as far as sexual attraction goes, a girl with a tatoo becomes invisible, no matter how beautiful she is otherwise. Just my cultural upbringing I suppose.
