After last night's huge storm, I have a great appreciation for Meteorologists |
|
And our local one ROCKS!
Seriously, we had a nasty, nasty storm front roll though after 8pm last night and had two tornadoes (F2 & F3) touch down in three places between Davie, Forsyth and Guilford counties. Sadly, there was one fatality at a business park near the airport. Cars all along I-40 were blown off the road. There was some damage at Piedmont Triad International Airport (some Fed-Ex planes were tossed around).
Had it not been for the work of one particular weather person, who stayed on the air literally from 7pm until 1:30 am, I'm convinced there would have been more deaths.
It's official, WXII Channel 12's Chief Meteorologist Lanie Pope and Brian Slocum :yourock: :yourock: :yourock:

some neighborhoods to the west of us got slammed. And to the east of us...it was a miracle that the twister that hit the businesses behind the airport stayed away from the neighborhoods near by.

was unbelievable wasn't it? It was all a little too close for me. They kept talking about a tornado near Guilford College and that's not very far from us at all. We went and drove around to see if we could find where the damage was, but all we could see was where they had that section near 68 and 40 closed to traffic.

4. I know. We live on the south side of Winston |
|
(near Washington Park, Marketplace Mall and Parkway Plaza smack in between the 2 I-40s) and it looked like it was sitting right on top of downtown for a while. When I heard them talking about Peters Creek Pkwy I started to get nervous. We didn't lose power though. I thought for sure we would.
We used to live in Greensboro by PTI Airport off of Old Oak Ridge Road and it is such a heavily populated area now. It was a miracle none of those neighborhoods got hit.

be near Sandy Lake and the Farmer's Market. They said that was closed to traffic last night. Not sure if it is still closed off today or not. I thought I heard that Greensboro or Guilford county was declared a disaster area. Wish I knew where all the other damage was though. Hopefully it will just be rain that we are supposed to get this weekend KC
