Did anyone else's mail carrier leave their food donation sitting by the curb? |
|
I watched out my front window.
I went through my pantry last night and realistically put things in boxes that I knew we were never going to eat. Things I'd bought on a whim. Things that I thought would be great to try sometime. But mostly things like canned veggies. Sorry that they were the Kroger brand and not Green Giant or another fancy label, but we eat store brands in this house too. Pasta. A can of tuna. Baby food (well really Gerber Graduates, but my guy won't eat them anymore and jars of Gerber fruit). 2 giant jars of peanut butter - we still have two left. I've really got to lay off the BOGO!
But I made the effort to set out these things that I know if someone is hungry, they are going to eat.
And the damn jerk just drove off. He stopped to put my junk mail in my box, but couldn't be bothered to get out and get the 3 boxes of food I left for my local food pantry. I know my mailbox post could use a new coat of paint and my Kerry/Edwards bumpersticker is faded and peeling off the post, but I refuse to take it off until we have our next slate of candidates going up against the hate machine of the GOP!
Fine. I'll be loading it up in my car and taking it there myself!

1. Before one indignitificates oneself, |
|
perhaps his little mail cart was out of room. Esp. if you have three boxes of food out there.
I'd wait, and see if he swings around for another go of picking up foods.
Or, you know, he might simply have gotten distracted between putting your mail in the box and driving off, and forgot you had boxes there.

5. Well, whatever. I take stuff to our local one all the time, I just thought maybe once I could save |
|
a trip! It's the lazy liberal in me.
He drives one of the big vans and he's not a friendly guy. I just figure he's the loser, not me. I'm going to drive through my neighborhood and see if anyone else's got left behind and offer to take it for them too.

4. I saw on the Postal page.. |
|
where you had to coordinate with your postal service to let them know you were taking part. It's a great idea to have a day to collect food this way but they need to make it easier.
We're pretty careful (thrifty, cheap?) about using everything so there wasn't much to spare and the added bother of dealing with the postal people stopped me from doing it :(

6. My bag of food is still sitting on my porch, too. |
|
I also didn't get any mail. Maybe if they don't have any mail for you they don't even bother to pick up the food?
It seemed like a good idea that might not be working so well.

Our mail carrier brought our mail, and took the bag out to the curb...
And then she came back in her truck to pick it up...
Sorry your mail carrier is such a prick...
