Star Wars geeks: a question concerning a novel.
I have need of DarkTirade's Star Wars suppository, but any Star Wars expert may contribute to my enlightenment. I am considering reading the novel Star Wars: Death Star. Is it worth it? Or would you advise something else? (I've read the Thrawn trilogy and the Jedi Academy trilogy as well as the Dark Empire graphic novels.)

1. I just got that one from the library. I wouldn't have paid money for it, it's just kind of a side

collection of little stories around the creation of the Death Star.

If you liked the Thrawn series, I'd recommend the 'Hand of Thrawn' duo. Also written by Zahn, they take place ten years later. If you'd prefer something dealing with the human element a bit more than the big galaxy-wide conflicts and people who were born princesses or can jump 20 feet in the air and deflect blaster bolts, I'd recommend perhaps the X-wing series (including the spin-off I, Jedi that links a character from that series with the Jedi Academy series.). The writers of that one tend to make the characters get a bit wordy speechy at times, but since those books are based off of comics that's understandable. :)

2. Our library here has it.
I probably wouldn't buy it either, but I thought it might be an interesting read.
Except it's currently checked out, so I'll have to wait.

4. I have it...
but I haven't had the chance to read it, yet. I have heard mixed things about it, though.

5. Sorry for the double post, but
since you've read the JAT, I would really suggest you to read I, Jedi, a look at the trilogy through the eyes of the main character of the X-wing novels: Corran Horn.

6. Hmm, another recommendation for I, Jedi.
I may have to look into that.

7. It helps to read the first four X-wing books first though.

Get a good feel for the character.

Although I'd also recommend continuing the X-wing books to the end, because the Wraith Squadron books are fucking hilarious. (I think they're books 5-7 if I recall correctly. Then 8 is a crossover involving Rogue and Wraith sqadron, and the last just follows Wedge and a couple of other characters. But 1-4 are the ones focusing on Corran, so they're the ones relevant to I, Jedi.)

8. The X-wing novels are kind of essential to I, Jedi.
More essential than--in my opinion--the Jedi Academy Trilogy that it mirrors. Rogue Squadron, Wedge's Gamble, The Krytos Trap, The Bacta War, and Isard's Revenge are the only ones that are really needed, but I would heavily suggest reading Wraith Squadron, Iron Fist, and Solo Command, as they are, as DarkTirade said, "fucking hilarious."

Yub, yub, original poster!

11. Reading list? Too long?

Blasphemy!

:P

Seriously though, if you're not into the series by the end of the first book, just skip the first four and try Wraith Squadron. Different author, slightly different style, and a lot less 'winning the war' plot and a lot more fun hijinks. :)

12. No such thing!
My reading list is a little full, too, though. At least I scratched Invincible off of the list, today.
