Need a recommendation for a USB microphone |
|

I'm thinking about starting a podcast, so I want something that will be decent for podcasting, but won't be overly expensive. Maybe a condenser mic? Aaaaaaaaand, GO!

1. The problem here is that you're gonna get a bunch of sound geeks telling you the best thing to buy.. |
|
when all you need is something that works. :P

I figure if I don't get a recommendation that's not expensive, I'll just say "fuck it" and buy a cheap-ass Logitech mic or something. I'd like to have a reasonable quality mic, though.

3. Unfortunately I'm one of those sound geeks... I have an actual microphone |
|
complete with the round however-many-pins mic connection. :P And I had to spend almost 300 bucks on a soundcard that had the various different kinds of connections so that I can use RCA and mic and MIDI and S/PDIF and whatnot. :P
As far as just plug-and-play stuff goes, I got nothin'.
Are you planning on having guests on your show, or are you gonna do a one-man thing? If you're gonna do a one-man gig and sound quality isn't all that important, you might want to look into some kind of basic headset. That way you can hear and talk at the same time without the mic picking up sounds from your computer.

4. Yeah, just doing the one-man thing... |
|
But I hate headsets, haha. I wear one everyday at work, so I'd much prefer a mic sitting on my desk. My computer is really quiet though so that's not really a big concern.

5. I know someone who swears by the MXL USB.008 Large Gold Diaphragm USB Condenser Microphone... |
|
I think he picked it up for around $150 from Musician's Friend

8. Those are XLR though, aren't they? |
|
I just want a decent USB mic to plug into my computer. I've been looking at the Samson CO1U, which seems to have pretty good reviews.
