How to stop credit card solicitations

Try this at home, boys and girls. It really works, and it's perfectly legal.

Note that these things always include self-addressed, prepaid envelopes.

I take the entire contents of their solicitation, fake credit card and all, write "Stop spamming me. I don't want your stupid card" in indelible marker across the top, and mail the whole thing back to them in their own prepaid envelope.

I did this after trying to phone Washington Mutual led me into Circular Phone Hell.

I was getting an average of three WaMu solicitations per week, to the point of receiving two on one day. After two weeks of consistently returning their solicitations at their expense, I am free of WaMu! :woohoo:

Now I am working on HSBC and Providian.

1. Or you could just opt out of pre-screened offers. Worked for me.

I can annoy them as much as they annoy me.

4. I do that once in a while
We've stopped almost all the junk mail. We still get one of those fake cards once in a while though, maybe I need to sign up for the stops more often.

9. Thank you for the link.
That was easy, I signed up for the opt out. As far as I can tell, it will also stop insurance and credit card companies from accessing my credit report.

I was surprised when I checked my free annual credit report a while back; at how many companies that I have no business with had checked my credit.

I have a link to Catalog Choice, a site where you can opt out of catalogs. http://www.catalogchoice.org/ I will post it in an OP too.

P.S. You have the cutest kitties

5. How do I get off the local circular flyers
you know the ones with the coupons for carpet cleaning, Jiffy Lube, and free Pizza Delivery? I get at least one of those a day. x(

I've about gotten rid of all the catalogs and cc offers.

8. Leer at the mailperson when they arrive, patting a baseball bat into your hand...
Edited on Fri May-16-08 10:11 AM by mainegreen
and ask him 'You don't have no circulars in there do ya? I don't abide circulars, you know.'

Repeat as necessary until the mail person is too scared to deliver circulars to you.

Note: don't actually try this. :D

7. I put a block on soft inquiries to my credit report.
It stops all this crap. I never get anything.

11. Do you have a link for that?
I signed up for the opt out that ET awful gave the link for and part of the deal is to stop companies from accessing my credit report.

WaMu sent me 3 solicitations last week. I mailed them all back in little bitty pieces.

12. There's an 800 number on the CC solicitation you can call.
It's hidden at the bottom page of the ad.

13. I froze my credit- not ONE offer since.
It cost me a grand total of 22.50 (7.50 per credit reporting company). Nobody (including myself) can obtain credit using my credentials. If I need to obtain credit in the future I simply call them with a pin number I have been provided & they will unfreeze it for a short period of time.

If a card company can't see your credit score they won't send you anything.
