Never, ever, give wifey stuff as a "surprise".
The single exception is if she's been asking for one. Even so, it will be the wrong brand, colour, texture.

2. Is it an enameled Dutch Oven? |

My husband surprised me with one a couple of months ago. Now I make wonderful crusty bread all the time. Is that why she wants it (or you want her to have it? LOL) Also made a dynamite Italian Pot Roast in it.
Hope she loves it! I know I do mine! :hi:

3. Where the heck did you get one? I've been looking for months. |
|
My boyfriend was going to get me one the other day and I can't find one! (I don't want one with plastic handles - I want to be able to put it in the regular oven).
You are a good husband.

Tramontina ones that are labeled casseroles, I think. That's what my husband bought for me. It was only around $60. I just swapped out the knob on the lid with a ceramic cabinet knob and the handles are also enameled cast iron. It's been a great addition to the kitchen.
Tramontina's got a very good rating from Cook's Illustrated, too.

9. Oh, okay. Changing out the knob might do it. |
|
And I wonder why they don't call it a Dutch oven?

All I know is that it works really well. I can bake bread in it at 450 and it comes out really nice.
And I see this thread isn't about what we thought it was. :eyes:

12. Maybe you shouldn’t wait, that might get uncomfortable |
|
Just give her a nice big excuse to leave the room or light a match now.
