I'm watching Pretty In Pink. Who loves it as much as I do? |
|
The funny thing is I'm the same age as Molly Ringwald and I didn't see it when it came out. It wasn't until the late-90s when I watched it repeatedly that I became a fan. I'm watching it tonight on Cinemax, and it's just as engaging as ever.
Right now Andie is cutting up the 2 prom dresses to make her own concoction. She totally rocks! And did you know that Harry Dean Stanton (her dad in the movie) is almost 82 years old now?
She's going to go to the prom alone now. Cue OMD. It's on!

2. I loved it when it first came out and for years afterward. |
|
I think I understood Andie. Maybe it's time to see it again, with my daughter.

3. Oh definitely! It's timeless. |
|
Cheesy, but has a good message about being true to yourself.

My daughter is one of the "lucky" ones. She could use a dose of reality now, because she's sure to get a whopper later.

5. I went as Duckie to a Halloween party a few years ago |
|
It helps that I could be Jon Cryer's younger brother, in both looks and mannerisms. Still a very fun movie.

...Oh crap, I just busted myself. Now you know I've seen the movie (in all fairness, an ex-girlfiend made me sit through it.)

9. If Andie had any smarts, she would have chosen Duckie. |
|
Instead of some milquetoast wimpy rich guy.
Blah. Not the best of the genre...

12. No way. Duckie was the epitome of the Nice Guy(tm) |
|
A more boring, irritating, shallow creature with an overblown sense of entitlement than the so-called "nice guy" does not exist anywhere. Duckie finally stopped acting like an entitled jerk at the end of the movie.

Andie ended up with Duckie but John Hughes was pressured to change it.

But she should have chosen Duckie.

11. I haven't watched it in like 20 years! |
|
I have the dvd, I just felt I should own it since I loved it but I've kept it on the shelf. I ought to watch it, I've been re-watching other old stuff lately.
Back when Molly Ringwald was making those movies she and I looked almost just alike, there are pictures of both of us that are hard to tell who's who. But that was 20 years ago, we don't look much alike anymore.

Psychedelic Furs - "Pretty In Pink"
Caroline laughs and It's raining all day She loves to be one of the girls She lives in the place In the side of our lives Where nothing is Ever put straight She turns herself round And she smiles and she says 'This is it'
'That's the end of the joke' And loses herself In her dreaming and sleep And her lovers walk Through in their coats
Pretty in pink Isn't she? Pretty in pink Isn't she?
All of her lovers All talk of her notes And the flowers That they never sent And wasn't she easy And isn't she Pretty in pink The one who insists He was first in the line Is the last to Remember her name He's walking around In this dress That she wore She is gone But the joke's the same
Pretty in pink Isn't she? Pretty in pink Isn't she?
Caroline talks to you Softly sometimes She says 'I love you' and 'Too much' She doesn't have anything You want to steal Well Nothing you can touch She waves She buttons your shirt The traffic Is waiting outside She hands you this coat She gives you her clothes These cars collide
Pretty in pink Isn't she? Pretty in pink Isn't she?
