1. And Mussina went 2/3 of an inning before being yanked.
Damn it feels good to be an O's fan.

3. Yeah, I'm enjoying that too

I call it the curse of A-Rod. He's never played in a World Series Game. He's 0 for 54 at the bat in playoff baseball.

I'm so glad we kept Mike Lowell and A-Rod went back to the Yankees.

6. I thought it might be because of this....
Oct. 21, 2104 | REPUBLIC OF THE BRONX -- Will this be the year the long-suffering fans of the Bronx Yankees finally celebrate a World Series championship? Or will this season end as the last 103 have, with disappointment in Monument Valley? Will the Curse of the Soriano once again take its toll?

The Yankees are set to begin their North American League Divisional Sub-Sectional Playoff series against the Rangers tonight at Torre Field (11:59 p.m., The Network), and for the first time in a long while, the surging Yankees are favored over their fierce rivals from Texas. The Yanks defeated the Rangers in 13 of 19 games this season, and with the addition of Randy Johnson Award winner Reza Sirizi, the Yankees look unbeatable in a short 11-game series.

The Yankees swear to a man that they don't pay attention to the Curse. But as every baseball fan knows, it's been a long, long time since the Yankees won a World Series. The last time the Yanks won it all, the Bronx was part of New York City; Bill Clinton wasn't on the $2,000,000 bill but he was in the White House; and the White House wasn't even on the moon!

It was back in 2000 that the Yankees defeated the New York Mets (now the Brooklyn Hipsters), 4 games to 1, to win their last World Series. The Yanks got to the Series twice more in the next three years and appeared to be a contender for years to come ... but then came The Trade. The team's owner, George Steinbrenner -- a name forever accompanied, in the Bronx, by a ceremonial spitting on the ground -- traded second baseman Alfonso Soriano to the Texas Rangers for shortstop Alex Rodriguez.

8. And now Soriano is a Cub.
And he'll be sporting a World Series ring before A-Rod does.

17. Meanwhile, favorite Miami Marlins face off against the Hollywood Dodgers
in their Series. The Marlins are in the playoffs for the 11th consecutive year and are aiming for their 19th world series.

Team Owner Hanley Ramirez III likes their chances, especially with first baseman Eduardo Alvarez's hot bat. Alvarez broke Ryan Howard's long standing home record for a season when he belted his 85th home run Sept 30th. Alvarez has 325 home runs in his young 5 year career and is in prime position to challange Ryan Howard's career 920 HR.

Former Randy Johnson Award winner and MVP Jason Smelling will start game 1 of the 11 game series. Smelling brings an 18-5 record with a sterling 3.05 era. More amazing are the strikeouts Smelling racked up during the season, an incredible 260!

18. One minor discrepancy in your comments.
The Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays will have both moved to Orlando, as both of those cities will be underwater due to global warning.

:(

19. Orlando allowed the Marlins to keep the Miami name as a tribute.
The Rays became the Orlando Rays since there is no actual city called Tampa Bay.

What's up with them so far this year? Thought it wouldn't be their year anyway, but didn't expect such a chillout at the bottom of the table from them.

14. He's a great guy. Get this story:
There was one player left without a host family. They were holding us back, I think. Gee, I wonder why. Derrick said that Butch (Hobson, the manager) called him in and said, "I think we have a host family for you, but, uh . . . but, they're lesbians." Derrick said, "Well, Butch, so am I."

He gets us tix whenever we want them, which is practically every game. They started their season on April 25 and their first home game was May 2. The stadium is great, and the team is 13-10 as of last night's 9-2 win. Go Blue Crabs!

15. Butch Hobson??
Didn't he play for the Red Sox (infield) back in the 70's or 80's?? Interesting how these players are coming back. Tommy John is the coach for the Bridgeport Bluefish in connecticut.

BTW, did he just say he was a lesbian?? Glad it is working out well for you!!
