And they aren't really live, there's a delay. Maybe that's your problem - the light speed delay from channel 7 is very long cuz they are aliens broadcasting from Epsilon Eridani!

Oil, mineral and gas rights might be quite lucrative.
But then, how would they get that oil back to our little planet? Probably use more fuel than we'd garner.

It's the stuff they invent and discover to get us there that's so valuable. That's just if you're not into the whole science and exploration for the sake of science and exploration thing.
Galileo spent a lot of public moneys and didn't discover a single thing that made life better for a single human being, yet the world would be a heck of a lot worse off without him. Indirectly, his discoveries -- science just for the sake of knowledge -- were arguably partially responsible for modern civilization.
