1. what kind, and why?
I ask because I considered getting an electric one, then decided it wouldn't take me anywhere a bicycle wouldn't. What are your reasons for wanting one, how far do you need it to go, etc.?

5. thinking honda reflex-to work and back daily
a bicycle would take twice as long. main concerns are fuel efficiency and pollution.

2. How are you going to use it?
If it's going to be a daily rider, I wouldn't get anything less than 250cc. And get good gear. Too many people see scooters as 'safe' alternatives to motorcycles and poot around in shorts and half-helmets. Get a full-face helmet, if you like your face.

3. In some jurisdictions anything larger than a 125 is considered a motorcycle.
I'd check state laws before you buy anything. It's better to know that you're going to need a motorcycle license, registration and insurance and be prepared with that knowledge going in than to buy something and find out later that you've got a problem.

Absolutely correct on the gear though...the size or reputation of your ride doesn't make you any less dead if you get hit by a car.

6. In Maryland, where I live, anything over 51 ccs is considered a
motorcycle. My husband has been looking at scooters and found that out.

7. thanks, the honda reflex is a 249 cc and has a windshield.
I'd be using it to go to work and back, so I'd be wearing hospital scrubs and good sneakers at the very least. A full helmet for sure.

10. check out this company:

Some friends of mine have a few scooters. One of them is the buddy international, which is supposedly really nice. However, my friend says that it's a bit too small for him, since he's quite tall. That's the one his wife usually rides.
