1. Take a book
I like serving jury duty, myself - the whole "civic duty" thing. I guess it sucks if you spend the day and aren't selected.

2. I know somebody who got out of jury duty by claiming that she didn't trust men with facial hair.
... of course, one of the lawyers for the case had a beard. :P

3. When I went (no number call, no questioning, no case) I likened
it to waiting at the gate for a plane that never comes. If you have a laptop, bring it... Most jury rooms have adequate electrical outlets and internet access...or, if not, lots of books. Although I met a few interesting people.

4. I will fire up the laptop tonight
didn't know I could take that.

Good. That will help at least!

5. Depends
whether you get selected or not

have really strong opinions one way or the other and maybe you'll be left out.

Depends how they select too.

If you are selected it may or may not be really boring.

Oh, and don't smoke crack before you go. In fact, just don't smoke crack at all  (a PSA)

good luck ;)

6. I served on a jury once because I wanted to
It was for a stabbing and I learned a lot. But now, I just email them and say I am hearing impaired without hearing aids and they let me go.
